UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Wow, that's a lot of Merrimack players on that list. No surprise with Cole, with the forward group coming in, I don't think he would get additional playing time next season. Glad to see Croix isn't on that list.

BvR looking to transfer is a big surprise too.

Croix needs to work on his game over the summer. Needs better decision making and smoother transition on the breakout

Plenty of talent smooth skater good size drafted total package

I disagree with all of this

After Norm Section 114'd him and he was removed from the power play we were finally able to establish the zone on the breakout. He has a lot of holes in his game and has the uncanny ability to turn the puck over in his own zone because of poor decision making.

If he puts it together awesome, but he is a long shot at ever making an NHL roster at this point.

Winnipeg must know more than you and me

7th round pick they drafted him on potential only

Again I hope he proves me wrong and I was pretty excited to see him as a Freshmen given his size and point total in the NAHL.

I mean even Seth Barton who was an NHL draft pick was our 3rd best Freshmen defensemen this year and got benched for the third game against BU.

Yeah, I think it would be easy for him to transfer to another school in say the WCHA or AHA given his size and draft status. I think it’s a positive sign that he’s still committed to this team and hopefully he’ll work hard to get better.

Agreed 100 percent, not trying to chase the kid out of school, but we have pretty good depth at D and he will have to compete to for playing time

I hope it works out and he can patch up the holes in his game, which for the most part are mental mistakes, but I (not Norm Bazin) would rank him pretty low on the depth charts. He does have a great shot from the point, but I just think he doesn't see the game that well and at this level of hockey you can't blink.

Gorranson
Blackmund
Baxter
McDonald
Sawchuk

Then you have

Cale List/Dominic Porporo/Croix Evinson competing for the 6th man or possibly the extra skater. I can't remember if we have any incoming DMen? Is Ben Meehan this year or next?

Also and I'm sure Scott K. could pull this number but I want to say 95 percent of the games Norm used the extra skater spot for a 7th defensemen. So I think next year we might see the same stragety as it's a safer play than rolling an extra foward. Point being the playing time will be available to whoever wants to win the job.

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Also Jordan schulting

Thanks bud, I always forgot one guy, I guess that is why I don't get paid for analysis

So let's move to Barton to that 6th man on the depth chart, that blue line turnover he made against BU in Game 2 in the attacking zone is going to play in my head all summer

Gorranson
Blackmund
Baxter
McDonald
Sawchuk
Barton

So we have competition for that ES spot with Schulting incoming and 3 returning depth defensemen. I am assuming Norm will continue to reserve the ES for another body on D. Given his season last year in the opinion of this Hawks fan. Croix has not warranted consideration for playing time. He will have to prove it in practice, in the weight room, and more importantly watching tape.

Forgot Seth Barton 👍🥅🏒

Barton is going to be good. There were flashes of his talent this season. He just needs to be more consistent and to get bigger and stronger to win more puck battles.

Needless to say it will be a big year for Croix. I'm not sure if injures kept him out of the line up or not, but only 16 games played, the same as his Freshman year. Like Barton I think he needs to get stronger

I believe defenseman Jordan Schulting is expected to arrive for next season.
