Sorry folks, if we actually want to compete at this level, we have to go big time. Why do you think Tsongas was built?

You could always move your seats to the row right below the press booth and hear it live right above your head. :)
I like to look down the runway

BS. Going bigtime does not mean throwing out the stuff that makes your character and tradition. Tradition is what keeps people connected.

We are still recovering from the loss of grass roots stuff we had before they killed the Friends Group in the name of going bigtime. All those people were super supporters. We lost the loyalty of a whole generation of people who were incredibly involved after they jettisoned them and tried to go with sucking up to the rich people. We still don't have a cohesive group of fan base people that plan trips for the fans en mass. We have loose groups of people that are starting to coalesce but nothing like what we had when the Friends group was active. Then we would be buying blocks of tickets, planning plane trips, etc. The University does that now but we don't have a Friends group like most places.

Many of the traditions do still exist. I hate the the Friends group got kicked out, so then it's our job to make a newer, bigger and better group. The University and the hockey program have now given us a way to do it ... by providing a team worth supporting. This team is succeeding in part because of the large crowds that are coming to games. If you don't think that makes a difference in recruiting, I don't know what to say. So we work with the new fans, and get them involved as much as possible.

Personally, I like the new version of Lowell hockey much better than what the old version was. Same as the school itself.

Boo. No FM. Selling our soul to be 'fake big time'. How the hell am I supposed to listen to Bob live at the games (which I have done for many yrs)? I don't have my old transistor radio anymore.

Lose the character and tradition of what made us and then we are just some other wanna be school trying to be like the big boys. Do you think they might figure out that being bigtime doesn't mean getting rid of the things that helped us be successful in the first place? ( I don't have enough data to stream and I don't have anything AM I can listen in on. So can you tell I am a bit aggravated?)

Eh. Just because we've moved beyond being a sad sack I would hate the sacrifice the character of the school. The character is what makes us different than the rest... character and mentality.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Yup, AM will be horrible. Should have kept the broadcast on WUML as well.

Why will AM be horrible? This isn't the same AM radio of years ago that was only broadcast in mono while FM was in stereo. (Anyone under the age of 30 may not understand that reference.) With the 4 stations broadcasting now, it can be heard over a wider geographical area than just on WUML. Add in the smartphone app, along with the online streaming, and it's now a lot easier for more people to listen to the games that before. I don't see this as a bad thing.

Speaking of broadcasts, here are the TV games so far:

Saturday, Oct. 12 vs. UMass @ 7:00pm (WBIN)
Friday, Oct. 25 at Mich. St. @ 7:00pm (NESN)
Saturday, Nov. 2 at UNH @ 7:00pm (WBIN)
Saturday, Nov. 9 vs. Northeastern @ 7:00pm (WBIN)
Friday, Nov. 22 vs. Notre Dame @ 7:00pm (WBIN)
Saturday, Nov. 23 vs. Notre Dame @ 4:00pm (NESN)
Saturday, Jan. 11 (Frozen Fenway) vs. Northeastern @ 3:00pm (NESN)
Saturday, Jan. 18 vs. Boston University @ 7:00pm (WBIN)
Saturday, Feb. 1 at Merrimack @ 7:00pm (WBIN)
Saturday, Feb. 8 at UMass @ 7:00pm (NESN)
Friday, Feb. 14 vs. UMass @ 7:30pm (WBIN)

Why are we giving up the character? WUML will still be on, just not with Bob. Bob will actually be able to be heard by more people now.

I'm not saying it would. I'm saying its something we have to watch out for in general.

Any thoughts on tonight's lineup? How many freshmen will play tonight?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

You guys are #1 in the country.

You tied McGill last weekend... McGill

It is the start of the season today with a game that actually counts...

And you have filled the last two pages of your thread whining about AM radio and TV schedules

I don't think many Lowell fans are hung up on this #1 in the country stuff. Sure the attention for the school / program is great but we all know they'll have to earn it on the ice. It's a new season and I'm sure there will be some ups and downs along the way.

You tied McGill last weekend... McGill .
Yes, disappointing but not the end of the world. McGill played well and it was a hard fought game. I'll take a tie and a healthy team any day as appose to a blow out win in a meaningless game and losing a top player for the season.

It is the start of the season today with a game that actually counts... .
I'm sure there will be much more to discuss after tonight's game.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

They better win tonight ... since I'll be in Panama for tomorrow's game!

Agree, Looking forward to the game and a good crowd. Hopefully the long weekend doesn't keep the student attendance down.

Have fun in Panama Monty.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Word is Doug Carr is getting the nod tonight in net to start the game. No surprise in a game against Sacred Heart.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

HAHA, taking anything out of this game is like judging a practice golf swing before actually hitting the ball. Playing with the lines, vanilla system, no urgency outside of get your legs under you for conditioning, etc....All that and it was like McGill's Stanley Cup playing the US #1 - play this game in 2 weeks with a real game on the line and it is 5-0
Are you still using the Stanley Cup excuse after tonight too? Like I said UML is a bubble team at the end nothing more.

Not enough data.

this. The point is you shouldnt forget what brought us to this point or dismiss it. Already there is all this nonsense of changing things only because we are DI, not because it will work better for us. Hello. We have been D I hockey for 30 yrs. We will be lucky to win 10 games all yr in the other sports because we took a leap of faith with little warning. Eventually we will do OK but all of a sudden banging our chest and saying we are D I so we have to act like the big boys just is irritating.

That was ugly. Nothing good to say about the players I usually like but I love #5. He is a little dynamo. Could watch him all night

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

This thread should get entertaining pretty quickly. Lowell deserves every negative thing said about them today. Sacred Heart did some decent things tonight and the 2nd goal was a really nice shot..... BUT LOWELL JUST LOST, AT HOME, TO THE WORST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. Only once last year did Sacred Heart give up fewer than 2 goals in a game. I guess it's a good thing Lowell likes to pick it up in the 2nd half of the season, but I do believe with the change in how they calculate PWR, Lowell may have already shot themselves in the foot 1 game in. Oh boy.
