UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Overall I do not think the team looked good tonight. For some spurts they did here and there. UVM played much better throughout the game; for the most part they seemed like they wanted it more. But somehow our boys were able to get the puck in the net at opportune times. Not a pretty win, but style points do not matter.
Agree, the Hawks were very fortunate to get the win tonight. That was one ugly game.

From the Yale AD
The first Liberty Invitational this season at the Prudential Center included Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth and Yale. Hockey East teams will join the Tigers and Bulldogs over the next three seasons.
2014: Princeton, Yale, UConn, Merrimack
2015: Princeton, Yale, Maine, UMass
2016: Princeton, Yale, Lowell, Vermont

When is this tourney? Xmas? Turkey weekend?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Someone should remind this team that all three periods actually matter. We snuck one out tonight, but that second period ... yikes.

Well done to the fans that showed up tonight and were loud. Especially in the third period.

BTW, Lowell ... don't f'in mike up the away band if you can't control their playing during game play.

Lowell dominated the first 20 minutes and the last 10. Vermont was equally as strong in the middle 30.

Why Lowell allowed the opposing band to play at all is confusing. Whoever made that decision should be stripped of such power in the future, because it was perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Yeah I was annoyed by that. And tbh their band sounded kinda bad playing. They didn't have a good sound balance, but I digeess.

UVM's inability to keep out of the box made this game a close one. If they hadn't gone to the box all those times the score would have been much uglier. Hopefully tomorrow is a better game.

That might have been the worse band I've heard. From multiple people around me, I heard that the junior high band was better.

The second period was bad. But I think too many Lowell fans are discounting how dominate they were in the first. Bazin commented that it's a game of inches, and Lowell could have had 3 in the first if things bounce in their favor. I lost track of how many pucks when through the crease or just wide/hit the post.

It doesn't excuse the dumpster fire of the second period. But this Vermont team has talent and pride and they raised their game and took it to Lowell, and the River Hawks couldn't answer Vermont's intensity. Then in the third it was back and forth for the first 10 or so minutes before Lowell took over the game.

Wilson and Campbell were the two best players on the ice for Lowell, and in my eyes the two best skaters on the ice period. Folin had a poor game, and Kapla got caught trying to jump into the play a couple of times. While I wanted to be mad at him, that's his game. He's had a great season for a freshman defender playing on a team with a "defense first" mentality, so we're going to have to take the good with the bad while he matures.

Not sure if anyone else had the pleasure of reading Sneddon's lips as he walked off the ice. Let's just say I think he made some of the frat guys blush.

Arnold had one that would have been a beautiful first goal but was probably about an inch off from bouncing in off the post instead of bouncing out from it. One of those perfect views of what could have been from 102.

And I probably would have been spewing a storm of words too if we had lost thanks to a stupid penalty in the last two minutes. I liked the aggression, but just a bad way to do it which cost them the game.

I noticed that their conductor was actually come of their trumpet players too. Seriously it sounded like they had never played together and were sight reading.

I was surprised by that as well... I'd only allow if it we were forced to do so.

Scott Donnelly says HE tournament rules allow the opposing team to bring their band. This makes no sense to me.

Yeah, to the Garden. Has anyone here EVER seen an opposing band in another teams barn in the QFs? I haven't.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I totally agree: great 1st period, god-awful 2cnd, kicked it up in the third just in time, Wilson was great Folin was terrible.

I also noticed that Holmstrom played good hard nosed hockey, mucking it up near the crease. McGrath seemed a little off, I wondered if he was hurt. Let em bring the band but absolutely no way you mike them up and let them play through the PA system. Even their cheers were being amplified, some chick with a really anoying voice yelling "go cats". It was nice to see Hamilton and Paliotta both take dumb penalties. It feels kinda weird that this team is so good that they can play hard for only 35-40 minutes and still beat a good team like VT. Remember when they used to play their hearts out and still come up short? I think it will take a better effort tonight to avoid playing on Sunday.

ND over BC 7-2??!! Really? Demko must be wallowing in doubt right now. I'd love to see BC get knocked out!

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

It has been a long tradition for the opposing team to bring their band. It's not like these games are sellouts. Anything to help fill the building and create some atmosphere is a positive

I am with DLG. I can't believe you guys are p od about the band being there and playing. We were sitting 2 sections away and probably heard their real sound which for the most part wasn't bad. If the team played all 3 periods instead of taking the 2nd off (which is when the UVM band really got their fans going) it wouldn't have been as annoying. I was more annoyed our fans had no response. I thought our fans looked like they were on Thorazine half the game. No chants, no nothing. If our fans were really active the band would have been much less noticeable.

They must have said something to them about being miked and cheering because that abruptly stopped. That is not OK and it isn't part of good band etiquette. Not classy at all.
