UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Need to take the Alumni Cup tonight and collect a trophy for the year, going to pull out the ULowell sweatshirt for this trip.
On the bye week issue I think the other thing to keep in mind is that everyone else in the hunt has finished with BC, not to mention the series losses to NU and Maine.
So..... the next two are huge and I hope to see the return of the hungry freshman of January tonight.

Pesky, we already won.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Made the trip to Agganis tonight. BU played WAY better than they did in Lowell. Great to see McGrath and Suter back in the line up.

Last night BU played much better than they did in the first game but I thought Lowell was pretty sloppy for much of the night. A lot of missed passes, turnovers and giving up odd man rushes. BU's first goal was off a 2 on 1 which was the third one of the first period. The Hawks had their chances but pucks just seemed to be out of reach or just behind a player for much of the night. One of those games where thing were just off a bit.

I give BU credit, they put pressure on Lowell's defense and seemed to get stronger as the game went on.

Huge two points tonight. The Hawks need to ramp up the intensity.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

What site has the best box scores for HEA/College games? USCHO doesn't do penalties. Hockey East Online does penalties but doesn't list their time, only which period they were in.

Does anyone do a chronological box score anymore?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Boxscore for last night's game from the HE site. Penalties are listed with times.
http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/men/boxes14.php?mbu_uml1.f07

The CHN site also has all the boxscores with penalties and times in their scoreboard section.

Ok, I must be blind because I'm definitely not seeing the time the penalty was assessed. The duration of penalties, yes and it does seem to have the penalties interspersed with the goals which I mentioned was missing but it not.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Bob telling us to turn down the TV and turn up the radio. By the time he started doing the call they had been playing for a while. So irritating. Why is the radio always lagging??!! Lil watches the TV says oh we scored and 20 seconds later Bob is yelling SCORE!!

This time minutes delayed. We have already watched the replay and gone a minute past

LIl just asked if we score and he goes to pick up dinner if he will make it back before Bob makes the call that we scored. :p

Fozzie Bear in net for Amherst now. Actually has made a few decent saves, a little momentum shift now so UML needs to maintain their intensity.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Interesting night in HE.

- Notre Dame scores twice in the final 1:08 to defeat Maine 3-2. Tough loss for the Black Bears as Notre Dame's Bryan Rust tied the game with the goalie pulled and then got the game winner 24 seconds later.

- Vermont defeated UNH 2-1 at Durham completing the weekend sweep. Vermont is currently 13th in the Pairwise Rankings. That trip to Burlington for the final two games is going to be tough.

The time of the penalties (and the goals) is at the far right hand-side.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Just did a little standings crunching and I like Lowell's chances for 2cnd. If UML goes 3-2 to finish the season then:
NU would have to go 4-0-1 to knock us out.
ME would have to go 5-1 to knock us out.
PC would have to go 5-0-1 to tie us.
VT would have to go 6-0 to knock us out.
NH could not catch us.

Even finishing 2-3, we'd still be looking good for a home playoff series. 3/4 of these would have to happen to knock us down to 5th:
NU finishing 3-1-1.
ME finishing 4-2.
PC finishing 4-1-1
VT finishing 5-1.

Pretty long odds considering ME has two against both NU and PC and VT has two against both BC and UML.

Yup I'm blind. Didn't notice the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen and didn't seem to be missing anything else. *blush* ty

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I definitely got the impression last night, moreso than while in Providence, that we had a strategy to sit on the lead rather than continue to press the attack. This may work for other teams but it's never worked out well for Lowell hockey and I really wish we'd stop doing that. It is risky against not-so-great teams, who can always have a good game, and downright foolhardy against better teams.

I watched the game on NESN and was thinking the same thing. It seemed like Amherst was constantly in transition using their speed in that 3rd period. The Hawks struggled in the faceoff circle yesterday which didn't help. The Minutemen held a 43-30 advantage on the day.

Over all it was a nice weekend for the Hawks taking 3 out 4 points. Good to see Jake Suter back in the lineup. He appeared to get more ice time yesterday than Friday night. Hopefully some of the other injured players are close to returning.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Good to have the 'W', and keep the Alumni Cup. I do have to agree it seemed like we let up a little and I don't think it was due to a shortened bench this time. First period I thought they had more opportunities, not a lot of offensive zone control by either team. Start of the second was a different story the way we basically got in the zone and when it came out it was because the ref was pulling it out of net. Then the let up until the last five minutes when the game was closed out very well.
Wilson wasn't in a sling before the game FWIW.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

According to the Playoff status site here, Lowell has officially clinched at least one home ice playoff game (well sorta, unless they end up the five seed.) I guess if you think of it like last year, and we officially clinched making the playoffs with three weeks left in the season. Thats pretty cool IMO

Off topic:
It's hard to believe the Women's Softball team opened their season this weekend. The team went 1-3 at the Hampton Inn of Dunn Invitational at Buies Creek, NC. Their next game is on March 8.

The Men's baseball team opens their season on Friday with four games at the Wright State Invitational at Gary, NC.

uhh... we clinched the playoffs when the stepped on the ice. Second, the real goal is the bye.

I realize that, fine let me reword, we can finish no lower than 8th. I would say the real goal is top 4, home playoff series with the bye. [acknowledging the real goal is winning the regular season, which is still possible, though not very likely)

The problem is it would take a monumental collapse by Boston College for Lowell to jump them, in addition to sweeping them in two weeks. I just don't see that happening.

BC - 27 Points
2 @ UVM
H/H Lowell
vs Notre Dame

Lowell - 20 Points
vs Amherst
H/H BC
2 @ UVM

The only way Lowell has a shot to jump BC is if they sweep them AND -

Lowell gets 3 more points/BC goes 0-3
Lowell gets 4 more points/BC goes 0-2-1
Lowell gets 5 points/BC goes 1-2-0
Lowell wins out/BC goes 1-1-1 or worse

We'll know if Lowell has a shot after this weekend. If Lowell wins and BC doesn't sweep, the 'Hawks would still have a chance, albeit a very slim one.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Suter had an assist stolen from him Saturday night. It's too bad he played well and helped start the scoring off for the first goal of the night and didn't get the credit. It was definitely a promising moment. Good to see him out there.
