Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Not a good night for the radio feed, lost it just before faceoff. Haven't heard any action.
I know. Is the B2 thing up? I was really looking forward to listening. THis yr has been a bust for the radio. It seems like every game someone can't access the feed. Wonder what they are doing about that for the long run.

It's back online but missed the entire first period. B2 is only for home games. While the changes for this program have been wondrous over the past few years, one of the few areas of improvement that this program really needs is a radio infrastructure upgrade.

This is a masive understatement.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Tied 3-3 going into OT against UConn is not acceptable.

Being tied 3-3 after being up 3-0 aganist anyone is unacceptable. At least the boys found a way to pull one out of their behinds tonight. Even Chaz himself was pleased with the overall effort except for the penalty-filled stretch and the end of the second and beginning of the third. While ugly, the mission was accomplished with a trophy. There are plently of teaching points here for this young team.

Anyone know if something happened to Pendenza? Bob was wondering on several occasions.

Sans the Russian exhibition, another two week layoff before the River Hawks take the ice in Vermont to start the second half of league play in games that count. The River Hawks have ended there non-league schedule at 5-1-0; (24 GF, 11 GA). They did take care of a rather weak non-league schedule this year and will hopefully aid them come March. Time to take advantage of an advantageous schedule for the remander of the year, 9/16 HE games at home.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Pendenza got hit late in the first and Artie spent a decent amount of time working on his left shoulder. He went back in and finished the first, but didn't come back out for the 2nd.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Mr. said UConn spent the whole night just banging and running into people creating chaos. Followed by 'the refs were awful'. He never says that. Still, glad they won.

Oh yeah, UConn was definitely taking liberties all game. Wallin takes a knee to knee that just gets a tripping call in the 3rd, then in OT he gets destroyed on a hit from behind cross-check that also only warranted a minor penalty. It was ugly, but you had to somewhat expect that being the Championship game and the officiating were AH refs.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

From the local branch of the world wide leader:

UMass Lowell nips UConn in OT
No. 17 UMass Lowell (12-5-0; 7-4-0 HE) may have taken their Atlantic Hockey hosts Connecticut a shade too lightly in the finals of the UConn Holiday Tournament in Storrs, CT, and the Huskies nearly made the River Hawks pay. Norm Bazin's squad held a commanding 3-0 lead by 14:10 of the second period on goals by Scott Wilson, David Vallorani and Terrence Wallin. But the Huskies began chipping away, starting with Billy Latta's tally at 18:26 of the second. UConn then deadlocked the game in dramatic fashion, scoring twice within 11 seconds at 1:47 and 1:58 of the third (Cody Sharib and Latta again). Lowell's Doug Carr and UConn's Garret Bartus each recorded six saves in the final stanza to send the game into overtime, where Bartus (12 saves) was immense. However, he couldn't stop Vallorani's second goal of the game at 13:01 of the sudden-death session, which allowed the River Hawks to bring home the trophy.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Someone needs to explain to me that penalty call that lead to the second UConn goal.

Anyway, what a great weekend. Two wins, a trophy, Rene Rancourt and a signed team jersey. Everything is coming up Millhouse.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Nice to talk to some UML fans on Thursday night. Unfortunately we could not be there Friday night.

Not to offend any of you or stir the pot or anything, but I feel I must point out that UConn wins the home and home on aggregate. At the end of a regulation five minute OT period last night the score was still tied. That means UConn wins on aggregate by one goal:):) Hope to see you folks next year.

Low-grade separated shoulder. I was told he'd be out 3 weeks,, but apparently Pendenza thinks it'll be more like 3 days.

Lowell wins when it counts, champs..........

U Conn is a quality team who plays their roles to a T. If BU had players as dedicated to the team and winning they would be top 5.

I believe UConn sets the format... not our fault... Lowell wins on away goals

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I'll always take the win, but wow that game became ugly to watch very quickly. Lowell took too many questionable penalties last night and also wound up 0-7 on the power play themselves. IIRC, they only had one power play goal this weekend.

They did seem to turn it on for OT (helped by UConn penalties) and thankfully won the game, one they couldn't really afford to lose. 12-5 is **** good.

Very good Lowell crowd at the game as well, and the players acknowledged it by saluting the fans after the win.

Lowell somehow winds up now 11-0 when leading going into the third, and Doug Carr still hasn't given up more than 3 goals in a game.

UConn did the same thing in this game that they did the last time, hit Lowell over and over again. And it did seem to slow down the Hawks at times.
