Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread
Eight of those are HE games while the other one is against UAH. The schedule has been odd and will continue to be so through those 9 games. Tough stretch but hope to see wins against UMass, UAH & Northeastern. Hopefully pick up some points against UNH as well. Will be done with BC and UNH after this stretch. What does everyone else think? Also noticed that Lowell has 6 home games in a row from Jan 28 - Feb 17.
I would divide that around the UAH game.
My target (see earlier post) for the initial stretch (H/H vs. BC, BU, 2 x ME, @UNH, UMA ) was and still is five points. They are already +2 ahead of my thoughts because I did not have them beating anyone until at least one of the two in ME or even the UMA game.
If they play with the same level at they did with BU, I would be very surprised if they came away empty-handed from Maine, even given their struggles in Orono. UNH is a bonus game if they take any points.
However, I don't have go into many details that the UMA game is a must win in more ways than one. If Lowell want be stripped of the label of ten-place team to a HE playoff contender, they have to win all of the home games against UVM, PC, UMA, and to a certain extent, Northeastern. Also, we know what type of baggage that game will have for a reason that we are all more than aware.
By the 19th, if they have five or more points, that would be a real hell of a start considering their schedule.
The UAH game is a good tune-up game to get healthy, and more importantly I don't think they will make the same mistake as they did with UConn.
Second part (H/H UNH, BC, @Northeastern)
With two home games against Big Four teams, I'd really like to see the River Hawks grab three or even four points here. That would put them for a total of nine points in their first eleven games with some sixteen HE contests left. To put it into perspective, they only had ten points for the entire year last season and be done with BC and UNH. That's really not a bad place to be in a weak league after the first semester.
While it's true that Lowell has a nice six-game homestand from 28 Jan to 17 Feb, they pay their dues in long-distance travel from 13 to 27 Jan going (@UVM, H/H NU, Tues @ PC, and then @UMA). With a lot of bye weeks coming early in the season, they will be constantly playing from 13 Jan to the end of the season. It will be interesting to see how that will impact the River Hawks as we head into the home stretch. Let's get through the first semester before worrying about that.
