Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Speaking of women's soccer, how about Jamie Gillis breaking the NCAA D-II record for consecutive shutout minutes and getting in SI's "Faces in the Crowd"? She graduated from Billerica High a year ahead of me, so that's pretty cool.
Was awesome for her and for the team (and for the school).

Hell, if you're a soccer fan like I am ... that's an extremely impressive record.

Monty, What happened to the Men's Soccer team this year? Expectations were pretty high.

I'm wondering the same. I don't know if it was new coach, new style or what ... but that was a debacle compared to what was expected.

Just looked at Holy Cross to see how Coach Priestly did. That team had 22 returning players, went 9-5-5 and lost in the Patriot League Championship game last season. They wound up 4-10 this year.

Just my opinion, but expect to see the P & S on the arena signed tomorrow night.
Based on the Sun article it sounded like they want to get done and announce it at the game tomorrow night. Hopefully they get a full house for the game, any word how tickets are going?

you're the soccer guy... how much of the sport is the systems? how much of the sport is players buying into the systems?

edit: I will say I've seen weird things in my tenure at UConn... while not following soccer all that closely... 2-3 games each season I've seen UConn teams that were supposed to be mediocre rise up to the top 5 in the nation and I've seen pre-season #2 team barely break even. It really seems hard to get a bead on how things should be.

Just curious as to what you all think the line combinations are going to look like. I havent seen a game this year; saw the BU game last March. Have they remained somewhat consistent over the first 4 games? I know in a lot of cases you have your top 9, then a rotating 3-6 players for the fourth lines. Where has Chris Auger been fitting in? Any thoughts on Sammy Dagastino? Looks like a good, strong skater; has he done much for you guys last year?

Email from UML:
This Friday, October 30, at 6 p.m. in the Talon Room of the Tsongas Arena. Sen. Steven C. Panagiotakos, City Manager Bernie Lynch and the Chancellor will elaborate on the agreement between UMass Lowell and the City of Lowell for transferring ownership of the Arena to the University.

As you know, at 7 p.m. the eighth-ranked River Hawks will meet the fourth-ranked BU Terriers in a rematch of last season’s hard-fought Hockey East championship. Between the 1st and 2nd periods, there is expected to be an on-ice official signing of the Arena purchase-and-sale agreement. We hope you are able to attend both events.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

wish I could be there... in my absence I'd like everybody to be as loud as humanly possible. LETS GO LOWELL!!!

Mrs Goers brought some cowbells from Barry's younger days to augment Lil's collection. Section X will never be section L(is that the one) with multiple bells but we can try.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Anyone know what we're looking like for ticket sales tonight? Have to assume this is going to be close to a sellout

I'm hoping it is, but haven't heard anything. Usually pressbox lets us know if they're removing tarps and such? And hopefully sold out with Lowell fans and a minimum number of BU ones.

Players buying into the system, players comfortable with the system. Just for a quick example, if you have a coach that likes to use his wings to move the ball forward, he'll recruit as such. If the new coach likes to use the middle of the field, the strength of the players might not be there because of the previous coach, etc.

We can take this offline if you have any more questions regarding this.

I'll be disappointed with anything less than 6,000 tonight.

I'm bringing my girlfriend to her first College hockey game and have been building this game up all week, although I think she is more looking forward to the Blueberry Ale at the Beer Works :D

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Couldn't pick a better one for her first game, Gainzo. Crowd should definitely be over 6,000. There'll probably be a good amount of BU fans though, oh well.

This weekend has been a long time coming. I've probably watched that stupid YouTube video of the goal 50 times since March, so frustrating.

I'll be at both games. Agganis has been a house of horrors the last few years, Lowell needs a sweep!!

Any word on goalie rotation for the weekend?

I was going to go to Agganis tomorrow but I just couldn't bring myself to fork over $50 for tickets. Will listen to Bob on the radio instead.

I would guess Hutton will be in net tonight. He played both games in Omaha and the Northeastern game. Then again, I have no clue how Blaise will set the rotation for this weekends series.
