Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread
As disappointing as last night's loss was, this win has to be a big sigh of relief to the players, coaches, and its fans. There is no such thing as a "worst outcome" when you split a series w/BU and more importantly, ensure that the season tiebreaker will be determine in February on our home ice. These teams showed why they are #4 and #9 in the nation. I'd be very surprised if these numbers change at all next week because the net is zero. Two games over .500 is a nice place to be, especially when this team is known for slow starts and where two of those games were against BU.
You can't fault the effort of these two teams this weekend because quite frankly, these were two playoff games in October. The bottom line was that they finally held a two goal lead. Yes, the offensive zone penalities in the third weren't very smart. The freshmen combo of Wetmore and Wright really look impressive at this early point of the season. Auger looks like a completely different player.
Hockey East as a whole this year is shaping up to be quite open, interesting, and competative this year. Any HE team can win any game and you just have to go out and play. Looking forward to the Vermont road trip next week and with a good showing, I'm hoping we can get another 5000+ for the UNH game on National TV a week from Sunday. Those games aren't going to be easy but should be on a high note after this group finally won at BU in the regular season for the first time in a few years.
