UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

You're lucky you don't have any Austrian, Russian or Swedish players. :)

Indeed. Though, it's also to honor the heritage of the game. Our women's team had a Scottish girl the last four years. Apparently, senior day was an event, as they sang the Canadian, Scottish, and US anthems.

I am Scottish and have no idea what the Scottish anthem is.

PS- what happened to the white text?:p

#5 in the country, and yet we still find something to ***** about. ;)

These are the last two games Lowell plays this year out of the New England area. Including these two games, Lowell has 6 non-conference games left. They're currently 2-1 out of conference, so as with all games this year, wins this weekend will be important.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Tomorrow (I believe) starts the early signing period for kids entering college for the 2010 academic year, it ends November 18th. Once that period is done, kids can't sign till April. Once you've signed your NLI, you're committed to that school unless the school lets you out of your "promise."

Lowell's been pretty bad at getting out information on NLI signees, but these are the kids that could potentially sign in the next week:

Chad Ruhwedel-RD
Tyler Brickler-LW
Marc Boulanger-G
Will Rayner-RD
Joe Pendenza-LW
Shayne Thompson-LW
Julian Melchiori-LD

I'm really OK with this :p About time this team has no drama.

These are the last two games Lowell plays this calendar year out of the New England area.

Had to fix the post....wouldn't mind travelling out of New England for games in late March or even better, early April. :D

Good point.

It's kinda scary looking at our schedule for the remainder of 2009 (kinda looks like UMass' schedule has been so far):
@ UAH X2
Merrimack
@ Providence
Maine
@ UNH
UMass
Princeton X2

Currently being 5-2-1 ... I hate to say it, but I'd be disappointed if this team loses more than 2 games in this stretch (if that even). Even if they (at worst, to me) go 5-2-2, they'd be 10-4-3 at the break. :D And then you stretch it to January with Holy Cross, and the winner of Northeastern/Dartmouth...

****, need to slow down here.

No surprise, Council approves terms of Tsongas Arena transfer.
http://www.lowellsun.com/local/ci_13761663

Lynch added that there is a possibility that the university may engage a private developer to build a practice rink on the site, in addition to development of a hotel. However, there is an engineering challenge in that there is a sewer easement that runs along the side of the arena, making connecting to the arena for the use of the same ice-making equipment difficult.
I believe a practice rink was in the original Tsongas plans before it was scaled back. They should have kept it in. A practice rink would have freed up the arena for many more events over the past 10 years.

#3, 17-3-1... this would be our rank and record before playing Northeastern in January of 2002... one game at a time, one week at a time.
I must have missed the players we're going to lose to the Olympics this year. :p

C'mon guys, are we getting a bit superstitious here? It's fun to look ahead and see what could be. I don't think the team's doing it.

I know but you still have to take it as it comes along. I mean, any year teams tend to flutter between 8th and 18th in the pairwise so often... yeah, I expect us to do real well, I expect us to be there, but I'm not ready to say "yeah, this is going to happen".

Not saying this will happen ... saying I'd be disappointed if it doesn't. ;)

Today's the beginning of the early signing period. Anyone want to go down to campus and find out who's signed, since the **** school won't release the info? God forbid you actually try and do something to help create more excitement for the future? (Yes, this annoys me a bit).

Yes this is true that the original plan was to have the practice rink. The 2nd rink was removed from the plans since the budget was not large enough to cover this. The lack of money is also the reason the arena opened without a scoreboard. The scoreboard that was purchased later turned out to be the real cheap one that is in there now. The news that Marty Meehan plans to have this replaced with a modern video scoreboard is very good news.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

My Sunday was interesting.

It was a rough day for me as I sprained my left ankle on an empty bottle that had rolled down from the seats behind me as I was celebrating the Adalius Thomas TD. Well, non-TD but I didn't know that at the time.

I didn't let the ankle get in my way as I thoroughly enjoyed the Pats win. The ankle really started to stiffen up after I dropped my friends off in South Boston (why do I drive a standard?)

I get home, fire up the DVR, and watch SEC womens soccer? After fast forwarding to the actual game it was a treat to see Barry Melrose praise Lowell like no tomorrow. His man love for Schaus and Edwards was something to behold.

I'm bringing my friend from New Jersey to the Merrimack game on the 21st. Hoping for a decent crowd and a Lowell win. I know nothing about UAH so I'll just listen to Bob and hope for a weekend sweep.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Just a gentle reminder … voting so far has been pretty good for the UMLHockey.com Player of the Game. We had 9 votes for the Colgate and NU games, only 6 for BU, and 8 for UNH.

If you'd still like to vote, I've left open the voting for the BU and UNH games at this point. I'd really like for us to average over 10 votes per game by the end of the season…

Remember, voting is only for home games and is available here.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

You know what ... I'm really getting annoyed with BU and UNH. Lowell's strength of schedule is currently 29th nationally. All thanks to BU and UNH! Bastids! :D

Imagine if we take care of business this week and Merrimack takes three of four from BU. Playing Merrimack may actually improve our SOS.

When was the last time this happened...1996??
