Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

What was the slogan the University used a couple of years ago in their marketing efforts?. I believe it was, "There is a lot to like about Lowell!"

Actually it was the slogan for the City of Lowell but it works for the hockey program too!

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Very good points, Gainzo. Some of those points are applicable to getting students to commit to going to the games as well.

Hopefully whatever dept is responsible for it can arrange at least a few bus trips to opposing games for our students.

Funny you mention that. I saw flyers posted at the BU game about bus trips for upcoming road games. Not sure if the students saw them as they were behind sections B & C!

I'm sure they were posted on Campus and behind the student section as well.

I didn't see those, I'll need to pay more attention. I don't believe they announced anything about it.

They didn't announce anything but the PA system was so bad I didn't know what was being said.

I'm going to the UMass game on Jan 15th and will probably make the NU game on Jan 9th. I may even rock up to Volpe for the Feb 6th game against the Mack.

I hope the students get down to Boston for the BC & NU games. I doubt any of them would want to go to Maine or Providence.

I can't think of one either. He's a Captain for the Stampede, and put up a +12 for them last year. He was named the Defensive Player of the Week just two weeks ago in the USHL.

I'm still waiting on news of one for 2011, I'm hoping that we hear his choice in the next two/three weeks.

I saw this over in the RPI thread regarding Wallin. Hopefully Lowell is in the running for him.

Ahem... ;)

Also, I'm updating my webpage and found this nice tidbit, Julian Melchiori was named late to Team Canada East for the 2009 World Jr. A Hockey Challenge, that's currently going on in Summerside, PEI. On Monday, as per the Hurricanes site...
Julian Melchiori of the Hurricanes was selected Tuesday as Team Canada East Player of the Game with a goal and an assist in TCE's 7-5 win over Belarus at the World Jr. A Challenge in Summerside, PEI. Combined with their 5-4 shotout win over the US on Sunday, Team Canada East moves into the event's semi finals on Friday.
Site updated with all the new info as well.

I was told that there is a student bus trip to UNH on December 4th. Should be one next semester as well.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I was surprised by how few BU fans travelled last weekend as well. I'm curious (even though I won't be there) to see how many UNH fans make the trek down.

I usually drive to Tsongas from Waltham to catch UNH games, which I plan to do this Sunday. I was thinking about just showing up an hour or so before game time as in the past when I have obtained two or three tickets for excellent seats. But, would you recommend buying tickets in advance for this Sunday's game, as there will be six of us? We are planning on visiting the Lowell Beer Works after the game, even if UNH gets pounded by the Riverhawks, which has been common the past few years at Tsongas. :(

With it being a Sunday evening game starting right after the Pats game, I doubt you'd have problems getting tickets. If we didn't hit 6000 against BU on a Friday night, no way we do for UNH on a Sunday.

PC is a fun game to go to. If they plan busses I think they will go.

An article on the River Hawks in today's Boston Globe.

Nice write up. I'm especially happy for Blaise.
It's strange to think that just over two years ago, this program was almost dumped.

I'm happy for us, as fans, and the Coaches, but the kids that were with the program that almost got killed, and those that had committed and stuck it out ... man, what a feeling this must be for them.

This may sound corny but IMO that dismal experience gave the team a strong mental resolve. How many games did they tie-up or win in the final minute last season?

I remember how calm they were on the PP against Northeastern in the HE Semi's with the clock winding down. Just moving the puck around looking to find someone who could take a good shot. Not to mention Campbell scoring with the puck bouncing like crazy.

We, as fans, have high expectations this year and so does the Coaching Staff and team. Blaise says it all in todays article:

And MacDonald and his staff have faith that this could be the year the River Hawks are a local representative at the Frozen Four.

“I think this is a good year for us,’’ he said. “We do have the physical and mental makeup to be a championship type of team. I think our work habits and talent are of that level. You need to mix in some consistency and some good fortune. BU had that last year, BC the year before. You need some good fortune and that is yet to be seen.’’

bottomdweller is right. You will have no problems buying tickets at the Box Office. I highly recommend the Merrimack Ale at the Beer Works. The vegetable quesadilla's are excellent as well.

I'm looking forward to trying the Nut Brown next time I'm in (which would be before the game Sunday afternoon :) )
