UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Keep saying our season is ending. It's been good luck so far :D

True, but I should have seen the annual UNH choke coming. BC is a different story. Good luck scoring just one goal on them and see how far that gets you. They fell out of bed and scored 5+ on UMass this weekend.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

I think we all expected better from a team that knew how to do their jobs... because frankly, this entire season has been a testament to embarrassment. How can a team that can do so much show up for this season and do so very little?
In general, there are a few guys that are above reproach this season, with Carter being right up at the top of the list. But there are a couple of seniors that I think just didn't do enough for what was expected. Our offense was abysmal starting in late November (the PC game, whenever it was) and other than a few games here and there, never really got going. 4 goals scored in three games. That was the problem for the majority of the season (since the 8-2-1 start). Not enough people stepped up. Even tonight, Soup's got the chance to score right before the end of the first and I believe he shot it right over the net (couple of people think it was saved, couple thought it was a clean miss). How many 2-on-1s or 3-on-2s did we see this season where not only was no goal scored, but a shot never even registered because they missed the net. Sad. What a waste.

Hey, look on the bright side, this season next year would be considered a wild success...
There are no expectations for next year (I wouldn't be surprised if we're picked 9th in HE). So anything positive next year is a plus, including the chance to see some talented freshmen come in and hopefully see improvement from the returing players (Soup and Mo included). I'm also interested in seeing if any of the three incoming goalies can take the #1 spot.

I'm not trying to bury them all... its just... I just don't get it.

I hope Hutts gets a call from the NHL... I don't have an eye for such things but he's been solid for us and it'd be good to see him go further. Dehner's been good as well.

I hear you on the odd man situations... its almost like the strategy is to go high or to aim high and work from behind the net if nothing materalizes. How many times did we even try to snipe the goaltender? Hell, when we do pass it seems to turn into one-to-many.

I've certainly made my thoughts on the main problem with this program known over the last couple of seasons. Is it too early to start a end-of-season debrief or do we at least let this sink in for a few days first?

we'll bang out a good long one with final grades on wednesday or so.

yeah... this week is for venting... after we can look ahead.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Well venting about the coaching is still venting, right? :)

yeah... though i honestly don't want to hear about it because there's many negatives to a coach switch.... but then again, we're talking results on the ice.

I'd like to hope that we can do better on the ice just by doing better. There's a slew of positive things that Blaise is doing and has done. It just doesn't appear to materalize into something.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Bleh. Missed the end because I was at Lil's game. Thanks for the updates Scott. I liked the first few better.

And to think I was happy for Vt. I still would love to see a Vt/ME final because I actually know a few nice people in VT but they aren't evident in here.

Now I am torn between wanting to see the Vermin be thoroughly embarrased or watching BC be embarrassed. I guess I will need to be happy either way.

It's not you they are tormenting. There are few UML fans who deserved the taunting but like anything else there is collateral damage. The arrogance and attitude by some of your fellow UML fans was a bit much to deal with...but that said your comments are appreciated.

Win with class, lose with class. It isn't what the other folk do to you but whether you respond in a classy way. Failed the test. Both sides have idiots. They feed off each other.

will you admit that last season's qf loss actually meant something.... do that and a lot of it goes away, moron.

Amen. For all my anti-Blaise ranting, I do agree that he does do many things quite well. I think he has proven to be able to bring in kids that just don't have hockey potential but who are high-caliber individuals. I've always been happy that the kids on his teams are the kind of individuals that I'm proud to have representing my alma mater. In my opinion there is a bigger picture than just wins and losses and to that end, I think the program is heading in the right direction. (Of course, Blaise's little off-season escapade a couple of years ago kind of detracts from that, eh?) I have a lot of strong opinons on the importance of a college/university's athletic department as a marketing arm for the school.

But as far as results on the ice go, I agree - nothing ever seems to materialize. I've never had unrealistic expectations that this program should compete with the bigger HE programs for league titles year in and year out, but I do expect his teams to live up to their own potential. And this is something I haven't yet seen in his tenure. (Others may disagree about last season but I think that team also didn't live up to expectations). I also expect teams to become better as a season goes along and I expect players to get better from season to season. This is all part of coaching and are things that we also haven't seen enough from this coach.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Bob and Chaz brought up something that made me wonder tonight. What would have happened if we didn't lose all those recruits when these guys were freshman...

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Lowell had no excuses because they for the most part had a better team this year then Maine. You never know next year's team might be really good. So now ends another season of heartbreak . But next year is next year.
