UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

No reason to give Maine a chance to think they've got a shot. Put their fans out of their misery tonight.

One of the very first times this year that the River Hawks actually excelled in a third period, and the second time they done it up here.

Very tight, defensive hockey game last night. For awhile, it was favoring Maine, but the PP own goal made all the difference in the world. Credit Ryan Blair for getting to that clearing attempt by the Maine defense that eventually allowed Benny to "whack a mole" into the net.

One of the keys to tonight's game should be to pepper Wilson with 30 shots or more. The goalies really weren't tested that much last night and neither goalie could be faulted for any of the three total goals that were scored.

Now they have gotten the Maine "playoff" monkey off of their backs it's time to close escrow. Don't let this go to a Game 3 and give them an out.

A request for the River Hawks tonight. Please win, I don't want to be blamed for a loss! :o

BBall team down 22-7 10 minutes into their game against Merrimack. Just like last week, can't shoot to save their lives. Just got their 2nd FG of the game.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Lowell got killed.

81-62 final.

ugh... I wish they'd be able to put a run together seeing as the championships are now in Springfield. I don't recall how far they got when they were #2 (when i was in school) but if the elite eight were in driving distance I'd get out there despite not really being a basketball fan.

They made it to the Elite 8 two years in a row when they had the two kids from Israel on the team.

They need to come back tomorrow and play great hockey for 60 minutes. Lets go LOWELL.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

A complete role reversal from last night, Lowell had a pretty miserable evening. No flow, no offense, missed odd-man runs, and numerous costly penalties that equaled a rather dismal performance. Once again the River Hawks being very incosistent after a big win and Maine has regained the advantage in the series.

Maine was the desperate team tonight, hitting people, winning just about every battle to loose pucks and going to the net. I didn't see too many chances for Lowell in front of the net and the few they got, they couldn't put it in.

On a brighter note, Carter Hutton was the sole reason this game was only 2-0. Without him, we would have gotten smoked.

I really don't know what I'm going to see in Game 3 tomorrow night, but to say that I'm surprised there is hockey in Orono on Sunday night would be a bit dishonest. What I do know if that it's the season tomorrow and if they don't get more aggressive and go to the net, it's going to be a very long ride tomorrow.

we seemed to have very little control of matters tonight... and that bothers me more than anything else. Credit to Maine... they forced us to have that lack of control but its one of those games where you feel the team doesn't have it for whatever reason and they won't get it over the course of the game.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Three things:

1. Stop the stupid penalties.

2. Don't give up a goal under a minute into the game.

3. Try, you know, scoring for ONCE on a breakaway and/or open net.

Especially that last one. On Lowell's tombstone it's going to read:
"We had a ton of chances but couldn't bury them." - Blaise MacDonald.

I'm not exactly sure how many times I've heard this sorry excuse making at the end of a Lowell game this season, but it has to be some kind of record. Lowell has one of the best goalies in the country playing out of his mind and the rest of the team can't even stay out of the box, never mind give him some help with a few goals.

Say what you will about Lowell/Maine history or playing in Orono; this team is one loss away from being the biggest Lowell disappointment since a trio of Frenchmen went to the Olympics.

For someone who was there- were all the penalties legit? I know they can be stupid but were they that stupid?

Les, I didn't have a problem with many of the calls. Thankfully the penalty kill was solid and Hutton played well or it could have gotten ugly. It's the same old story, Lowell had plenty of chances but failed to convert. The frustrating part is ttat Hawks have only scored two goals against a struggling backup goalie in two night. Both of those goals were a bit on the flukie side too. Shoot the puck.

it will be intersting to see what happens tonight. The Alfond should be rocking as i believe classes start tomorrow. The Hawks better be ready to play as I'm sure Maine will come out flying.
