UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Win with class, lose with class. It isn't what the other folk do to you but whether you respond in a classy way. Failed the test. Both sides have idiots. They feed off each other.

See the post below your last one...thus the lack of class. That said best of of luck with next year.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Bob and Chaz brought up something that made me wonder tonight. What would have happened if we didn't lose all those recruits when these guys were freshman...

what if the moon blew up? what if poison tasted like chocolate? what if the japanese won world war ii? lots of what-ifs to kick around.

You never know next year's team might be really good.
yeah okay buddy

Not really sure what I find funnier: the fact that there are Vermont fans in the Lowell thread, considering how big of a series your team just won, or the idea that on some level you think this bothers us. real talk. the realest.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Obviously a lot to digest right now, but this keeps running through my head:

Coach MacDonald had an overtly experienced, senior laden team with playoff experience. He had this team in a year when Hockey East was obviously wide open for the taking.

And none of the teams goals were accomplished. Not a single one. They didn't get home ice, they didn't get 20 wins, they didn't make the Garden, they didn't make the NCAA tournament.

What did we get? Excuses. A complete inability to bury golden scoring chances the entire season. A team that, year in and year out is one of the least penalized teams in the league, finding ways to take stupid penalties at precisely the worst possible times.

Where do we go from here? Next season is going to be a struggle to make the playoffs. The year after? The year after that?

I guess what I'm saying is, given the most ideal circumstances Lowell fell flat on it's face. How can they not make a change at this point, even if it's just for the sake of change.

Dude, you and UML goon spent half you life on our thread, so what's your point? For all the *****ing you gave us all year we are still alive (though barely) and if we win we are in again. So congrats on your 1-0-2 record against UVM this year, wear it in good health.

kdaddy, dont waste your breath. They'll never really understand that a.) UVM is a team that has won MANY more clutch games than UML has, and b.) that their team sucks. They're chokeartists.

or was it all an incredibly successful wind-up?

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Thank you to another group of seniors who years at UMass Lowell have come to a conclusion. It was great to meet and see you all play and to have the prviledge of knowing some of your family members as well and an honor to this alum. Best wishes for the future.

I'm overtired which means I can't sleep. I'm too depressed to write anything constructive now, but I'd be remiss not to ask these two rheoticial questions.....

Who's this Tim Whitehead and why can't we beat coaches like that??!! :o :(

Ignore is a beautiful feature. Only have a few people on it. Why are 3 outta 4 of them from VT?

You guys have absolutely nothing to complain about--not after UMLGoon and others spent the entire summer in our thread belittling our accomplishments and attempting to explain why it should have been UML and not UVM in the Frozen Four. What goes around comes around.....

Give credit to vermont they beat the number one seed UNH.
Agreed.

At some point though, don't the players have to take the blame as well? The heralded seniors came up with a whopping two goals in this series. That's it, their last possible games of their careers, and none of them could put the puck in the net the last two games of their careers. I don't think it's as easy as replace Coach MacDonald, things MIGHT get better. To me, for all my years folllowing hockey here at Lowell, the recruits the program is bringing in are getting better and better overall. That's a huge plus.

We're all disappointed obviously ... but ... hell, I don't even know at this point.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

It's not you they are tormenting. There are few UML fans who deserved the taunting but like anything else there is collateral damage. The arrogance and attitude by some of your fellow UML fans was a bit much to deal with...but that said your comments are appreciated.

I agree, many great UML fans, but then there are the others who filled up our thread all season long with their drivel.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Summarizing a nice post:
  • I think he has proven to be able to bring in kids that just don't have hockey potential but who are high-caliber individuals.
  • I've always been happy that the kids on his teams are the kind of individuals that I'm proud to have representing my alma mater.
  • There is a bigger picture than just wins and losses and to that end, I think the program is heading in the right direction.
  • Teams need to become better as a season goes along
  • Players need to get better from season to season.
WMFUML said a lot of things quite nicely in here and Patronick later asked 'How do we not make a change even for the sake of change?'. I'm a bit torn on this myself. I think the first three points are things you aren't going to find in just any coach and I think they're really important and I'm not a fan of 'change for the sake of change'.

I'm wondering what might come of the Athletic Department having some experienced people go over the program's short/mid-term in-season plan in terms of how the coaching staff prepares and executes and see if maybe another assistant coach and/or rearranging of duties might help.

One last thing, I think that Blaise's demeanor on the bench had substantially improved over the last year which I'm definitely happy to see.

Anyhow, without question, the results on the ice need to change; not to the point of exceeding what the team can do, but just getting the most out of the team.

Yes, they do, and the players should shoulder a substantial chunk of the burden. Probably over 50% of it even. Like you (see my previous post), I am in the 'which way is up' mindset.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Vermont fan here not wanting to pile on, as I know how much it sucks to see a team with great promise and a huge upside fold their hand and not even play.

Normally, I do not enjoy other team's disappointment, and find myself feeling bad for wanting to see Maine win, as there obviously are more UML fans that are thoughtful and graceful than those that spent all summer/season trashing Vermont.

Good luck next year.
