Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Thanks guys! Yeah it was a great game. So much went against us in the game and somehow we never gave up. Our 2nd National Championship was even better than the first. Ever since Odim went down we have kept on fighting!

Didn't hurt UMD's cause any with DSU going for it on fourth down instead of kicking the fieldgoals. That was 6 points out there that they didn't get. Even if they hit one of them, that would have ment that the kick at the end there would have been just to send the game into overtime. UMD's kick at the end of the game was pretty high pressure, but even if he missed it, the game was still going to go on in overtime, thus meaning the kicker wasn't going to lose the game on his foot. That kick, we'll, all he could do was just win an NCAA championship with it.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

So will Bulldog fans get all uppity and p!ssy with the Blackhawks like Gopher fans did with the Islanders when Okposo signed?

Would Olsen have been academically ineligible to play? That could be why he signed with Chicago.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Hate to see mid season signings. I have to believe that an academic or team rules issue precipitated the signing.

Otherwise, I can't imagine why a key player, with tons of ice time on an excellent UMD team with NCAA ambitions and a new arena would leave school mid season for a slot with the Rockford Ice Hogs, as he could have the same experience by signing this April.

Feel bad for UMD. Olsen was a terrific college player

It was said on Twitter that if he didn't leave, he'd be academically ineligible to play anyways. First round draft pick... most aren't going to sit through that.

I'm not all surprised. He had academic issues prior to going to UMD. Not his strong suit. Good player, college just probably wasn't for him.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Dirty, you are right, it was academics. This wasn't an Islander issue. It had been rumored the past 2 weeks but I guess he won't try to take J-Term classes to get eligible. He quit on his team and school. Hope he fails badly.

So all the coaches recruiting this kid knew he had problems in school and he ended up at UMD..... Sounds like TJ Caig, a good player with a .05 brain......

Of course my team can't talk. David Eddy missed the whole first half of the season because he wasn't smart enough to know you actually have to do the work or you won't be eligible.....

Totally agree. I hope he does well w/my Blackhawks but this is nothing but bad news for the WCHA/UMD/NCAA in terms of losing a major talent. I guess this is a case of "some guys just aren't cut out for school"

Big difference. The Blackhawks GM is still glowing from winning the Stanley cup, while Garth Snow was desperate to find a way to deflect the criticism of running a horrible hockey team, and not getting his worthless *** fired.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

I think tUMD coaching staff dropped the ball on this one!! No one on the staff figured out that this kid needed help untill it was to late? From what I read Olsen wanted to stay but his hand was forced. To bad nobody helped him. Will see everybody at AMS oil arena this afternoon, it's all free and don't forget your skates!!

Oh please, you think that the coaches and staff didn't know that the kid wasn't going to class and doing his assignments and whatnot? Even lousy schools like say Minnesota-Crookston, would have somebody on staff that at least looks in on the dunderheads from the basketball team go to class and put an effort in their studies and all. Student athletes are watched, and they really would have to go out of their way to bomb out of college.

At UND, I've been in class and had one of the hockey coaches themselves showed up looking for players. One time, one of them was missing. That was funny.

The coaches know who's doing well and who's not doing well in their classes. There is, at most schools, an administrator in the athletic department who's job it is to track student athlete academic progress. Heck, there is probably more than one person at most schools. I would find it hard to believe the administrators at UMD weren't aware something like this was going on.
