UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Be sure to read this week's Wednesday Women on the D-1 Womens page here at uscho.com Arlan Marttila thinks that right now UMD (in his opinion) is most likely to unseat WI as champion! Good thinking Arlan, good thinking!! :p;)

GO DOGS!!!

Free Willy - WCHA offensive player of the week!

They ought to get a copy of "Little Willy" to play at Amsoil whenever she does something big. "Little Willy Willy won't go home, but you can't push Willy 'round, Willy won't go..." Stuff like that. Congrats to her and it's good to see her back on her game! :D

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

By the way.. if this doesn't define 'hooking'.. what does? No call on it

Must have stayed on her skates. If she falls you probably get the call.

Other player does not have to fall to be called for hooking. In the picture shown, if the dark sweatered player prevents the shot or pass while having her stick in that position, it's an obvious hooking call.

Gee thanks. What would I do without you. ;) You realize we're talking about WCHA officiating right?

And you realize we're talking about North Dakota, right? ;)
:) I do indeed. I call it a hook but can't be too shocked by a non-call by the WCHA official. Remember...photo shot in Duluth. If the bullmutt player falls, the crowd roars...the water bottles fly...the sequins start moving rapid...and the arm goes up. ;)

Hmmm, that sequence of events looks strangely familiar...and I've never even seen the bullmutts play in Duluth. ;)

Seriously? Way too predictable. Not to mention, old.

Anyway, back to Hockey. Sooo... no Irwin this weekend. She's heading out to Team Canada for the Four Nations Cup. From the UMD site:

DUTY CALLS FOR IRWIN, WINBERG AND VILLILA: UMD will have three players currently rostered at next weeks Four Nations Cup taking place Nov. 9-14 in Nyköping, Sweden.

Senior forward Haley Irwin will miss the Minnesota series to report with Team Canada, where the current Bulldog captain will team up with former UMD All-American Jocelyne Larocque for the defending tournament champions.

Junior forward Pernilla Winberg will join Team Sweden while freshman defenseman Tea Villila will join Team FInland, but neither will leave until after UMD’s skate with the Gophers on Saturday afternoon.

I like the Duty Calls reference...the rodents can't seem to grasp that.

I failed to make that connection when we were discussing Spooner missing UW @ OSU; thanks for the info.

Yes you are right, Shannon Miller is way too predictable; you would think at some point the WCHA refs would catch on to her antics, as they are growing old.

As predictable as seeing Five National Championship Trophies in her office every day. Sticks and stones, boys. Sticks and stones.

A really crummy time for her to be gone but in the same breath, I do think we can win without her. Our second line has been clicking quite a bit so we may need to lean on them... or, our offensive Defenceman on line #1 need to shoot the puck. Both have wicked shots and can score goals.

UMD is going to have to be defensively awesome against Goldy's fire power and when they get the puck, decisive and aggressive with shooting. As much as this is a rivalry, I'm truly hoping for a great game... the way that playing Wisconsin is always great hockey.

That's always a tough decision when a first-line forward is missing; if somebody from the second line is promoted to the first, while someone from the third goes to the second, then potentially all three lines are disrupted. Ideally, a team has a tenth forward that can fill in on the first and leave the second and third intact, but that's usually not the case in women's hockey. At this point of the season, it can be a blessing in disguise if trying new combinations discovers something that works.

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

My guess is McP..... but understanding I don't know the chemistry mix.... Hickle's got a good shot to. T-miuns 7 (ish) hours....

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Sure quiet over here.

A second very fast, exciting and entertaining game although without the outcome that 'Dogs fans would have hoped for.

Harss had two excellent saves about half way through the 3rd period on odd man rushes..of which there were several.

Regardless of the talent on the team of which there is no shortage, I still say the 'Dogs need to work on shooting strength...quicker decision making, quicker releases and shooting with authority when the time is available...which is often.

Lacquette's goal was a beauty...but it was shot with authority...she shoots like a man...which is my point. Raty's odds of success were drastically reduced in that situation because of the quality of that shot.

Too many feeble shots apologetically aimed in Raty's general direction when time and space allowed a different caliber of shot to be chosen. I did not notice this deficiency on the Gopher squad...and I was watching for it...over these two games when they shot, they generally were not taking any prisoners. That's how it should be done, otherwise, why are you playing the game?

That having been said, I will say again...the eastern teams should be on alert for the Big 3.
