UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Yes, Madison Kolls is transferring from NoDak to UMD and will be, as per the NCAA rules, red-shirting.
Every time I saw UND play last year Kolls was wearing sweats in the crowd so I guess you could conclude she was essentially red-shirting last year too. With UND upgrading their personnel she was probably not going to get much more time this season. I hope she gets what she wants, I hope she gets to play some hockey.

I think it is a WCHA rule that requires players to sit out a year when transferring within the conference.

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Been a really busy summer, haven't been on here since the National Championship game I don't think.. figured it was time (no.. not 2 am on a Sunday night :) ) to check back as we get near mid-August and under 2 months until hockey. UMD announced Brigette Lacquette to be on the U-22 Canadian team playing this weekend vs the Team USA team.. not news on other threads here probably but at least in this one before we create the 12-13 season thread.

I was surprised that Jenna McParland wasn't on the roster named, but I noticed that both she and Jessica Wong were invited to the selection camp but unable to attend:
INVITED, BUT UNABLE TO ATTEND / INVITÉE, MAIS INCAPABLE D'ASSISTER
Stefanie McKeough L/G 5'7" 146 01/27/91 Carlsbad Springs, Ont. University of Wisconsin (WCHA)
Jenna McParland R/D 5'9" 144 05/12/92 Schreiber, Ont. University of Minnesota Duluth (WCHA)
Cayley Mercer L/G 5'7" 127 01/18/94 Exeter, Ont. Bluewater (PWHL)
Jessica Wong L/G 5'6" 142 03/29/91 Baddeck, N.S./N.-É. University of Minnesota Duluth (WCHA)

I *think* I heard McP had a slight injury. Wong had surgery in the spring to attend to a torn muscle in her leg that she skated on for well over a season. I'm sure she wants to be there but is dedicated to healing for her senior, and Captain, season. And so that she has a career post college.

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

And a Jennifer Harss interview with quite possibly the worst photo of her that I've ever seen

I hadn't seen the picture or story/page, and since I've been busy I didn't see the post here .. but the lighting and editing (over-sharpening especially) of the photo are terrible by UMD's own photographer even.. looks like she's actually been dead a week and in a funeral home..

Yeah, they did this with a few other graduating athletes and it was awful. Division I sport, Community College staffing.

I'm pretty sure Wong had a torn labrum in her hip caused by a genetic defect. But I'm sure they didn't want it to seem that bad so they told the media it was about her muscles.

For some reason, that sounds very painful. Here's hoping that her surgery was a complete success so that she can have a good senior season and walk normally when her hockey days are over.
