UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

I've always felt that I've needed to support the sport at local Frozen Fours. It wasn't the most pleasurable experience to watch UMD saunter around and celebrate in 2001 while the Gophers were left home, but if we don't support the event, who will? If nothing else, it is an opportunity to meet some fans from around the country.

I enjoyed that very much though!!! ;):D It very well may be reversed this weekend . . . I think it would be great fun to meet up with fans (esp. anyone that posts) too!! I'll definitley be at all the games . . . and might need a drink or two to help me overcome my team not being in it!!

Skate/Schmoe - will the Bulldog Lounge be open???

I'm counting on you being there Skate . . . .

My inclination is that it will not be. It wasn't for the Final Face Off, instead it was reserved seating for WCHA peeps. The bar was open as sorta a perk for the women's games when it appeared no one bought Bulldog Club memberships otherwise required for entrance. From what I understand, it took some convincing to keep it open the second half of the season.

They would be morons to not open it and make some cash. Mainly from me.

Sadly, I will be watching online from home. I have company coming from Duluth, company with incredibly bad timing. Of course, should free airfare and accomodations in Duluth be offered, I could be convinced to be out of town when they get here Friday. Otherwise, have fun at the games and have one (or ten) for me. :D

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

You guys have the rest of the week to really talk it up with friends, neighbors, co-workers, everyone you meet. How cool would it be to fill up Amsoil? The last two Frozen Fours in Duluth almost filled the DECC. I'd love to see a huge crowd making lots of noise (and I bet the players would like that, too!)

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

I do realize that the coolness factor might be somewhat diminished by my absence, but fill it up anyway.

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Was really impressed to see many Bulldogs working behind the scenes at Amsoil. I'm sure it's not easy for them to be there... at all.

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

And it's spring break week, too, isn't it? I'm sure they'd rather be in Florida or something. And what's up with Noora Jaakkola, or is it a big secret?

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

She's homesick and isn't really feeling important at UMD. She completely dropped out of school. Turner is also looking at transferring to UW-Eau Claire. The team has to be here as they are "hosts" for the tournament.

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Turner, Jaackola, and Dodge not returning to the line up.
Add that with graduation of Harss, Posa, Steck, Irwin, Ambroz.

We have 4 Published recruits. I know sometimes UMD doesn't publish all that are coming in and sometimes they get Euro recruits late in the game due to clearinghouse matters taking time. But we have 4 coming in and two are goalies.

I'm assuming she's got some more up her sleeves.

Re: UMD - Bulldogs -'11-'12 Season Thread

Just looked at the UMD roster, the departures and recruits. Miller have something against MN players?
I don't think something against Minnesota players would be quite accurate.

Coach Miller isn't from Minnesota, her contacts are in her native Canada and in Europe, she has been extremely successful recruiting mostly Canadians and Europeans, it doesn't come as a surprise at least to me that her recruiting practices repeat what has been successful for her in the past.

But you are correct, not many Minnesotans.

They do very well without the top MN players. I believe the last truly top tier recruit she had from MN was Drazan '04 (defense from Twin Cities area) and she later transferred down to the UM. Maybe will take 1-2 role players from MN/yr.

Miller loves the Euros... All about the Euros and yes, she has found much success with them. The big question for her next season will be goaltending, but it appears that she has recruited a Swede from Kim Martin's home town.

I didn't expect much in 2010 with all the top players gone for the Olympics and a truckload of freshmen and look what they did. Next season will be interesting, that's for sure (he said, meaning "interesting" in a "bring home a trophy" way.)

And every school recruits Americans, Canadians and Europeans. Well, the schools who win national titles do anyway. So whatever.

Can't recall any Europeans playing for UW, and just two for Minnesota unless I'm forgetting someone.
