UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Looked like UW's 2nd goal was result of miscommunication between Black and LQ. The game winner looked like Jasper went after her player leaving a gap and Decker pushed through Wong (?) and scored.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

UMD 2 - UW 3 in OT.

Decker unassisted off a faceoff in UMD's end...skated right in on goal. She plays with serious intensity.

Two penalties in the 3rd...another dumb one by UMD...Vililla...and Packer for UW on which PP UMD scored seconds later to go up 2-1.

A few more minutes in the 3rd without that weird goal and they would have had a win.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Looks like UMD might possibly have been ripped yesterday on that first (disallowed) goal. Miller claims it hit a player's arm, with the player in question not being mentioned. It was disallowed due to a high stick but I've watched it several times in real time (can't tell) and then the replay which was zoomed in and from that view it was obvious that the only high stick(s) belonged to definitely one and possibly two UW players...McParland's stick was clearly on the ice. Beyond that, not sure of the rules.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Apparently Vafina was only given one year of eligibility by the NCAA. So unfortunate.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Guess they should stop going after RUssians. Just sayin.

So, the team is underwhelming. There were some bright spots of hope after the break, you know, when all they had to do was practice and not worry about that learning part of school, like the rest of us mortals. McParland seemed to find her talent when she was put on a line with Kenyon and Wong but now Wong has lost her fire that she had when she moved back to Forward. Is this injury the paper wrote about keeping her from performing? Is she a head case? I don't know, she was there and everyone knew it on her first game as forward and now she has disappered. It's too early for mid-terms so grades and studying surely can't be an issue.

I liked what Wilson, Winburg, and Hickle were doing for a while there. what happened?

Can they keep the North Dakota Prarie Dogs at bay? Will take 10000000% effort by the whole team. Even the ****y fourth liners that pout when they can't play.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

UND 2 - UMD 0 after one.

Grapp in net for UMD!!!!

First start all year and even though Hanson said she saw action once earlier in the year, I don't recall that. Apparently Carlstrom and Black are injured. UND scored less than 2 minutes in and after almost drawing even the puck was picked up immediately afterward by M.Lamon on a bad break for UMD (player fell) and she walked in on Grapp and made it count.

Horrible video quality thanks to someone cranking the brightness knob to "maximum"...the glare is so intense that you can't see the puck, (and often not the lower part of the sticks), the faceoff circles and only rarely can you see the blue lines. Does nobody check these things after flipping the switch to on?

Blackbeard - I checked the old boxscores. Grapp played the last 10:11 in the 8-2 win over St. Cloud in Duluth. No goals allowed...no saves either.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

UND 2 - UMD 1 after two. SOG UND 20 - UMD 10.

Forgot to mention the nice feature that's been added today to the broadcast...Live interview after the first period with Hickel and now with Thibault after the second. And now an inspirational interview with Caitlin Tate who only has one hand and yet has played goal for several years and, I gathered, has just finished her high school career (she will be addressing a crowd of 200 tomorow). Wow!

Great improvement in entertainment value and class/professionalism.

Now if someone would just check the screen to make sure that the broadcast is functioning properly maybe we'd actually be able to "see" the last period.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

UND 4 - UMD 1 Final on 2 empty netters in the last 3 or 4 minutes. SOG UND 30 - UMD 19.

This was anyone's game with the 'Dogs outplaying UND in the last half of the game and generating several opportunities but failing to finish. A bit of a miscommunication with Grapp attempting to leave the net then returning then leaving again at the end of the game I think was inconsequential since the problem occured with their not getting the puck through the neutral zone, UND's Dufault taking it and scoring a long empty netter immediately after Grapp had vacated.

Impressive evening for Grapp...she can't be faulted on the two goals...the first one was a very quick deflection on the doorstep...and she made some really nice saves especially in the last half of the game to keep it close. Based on what I saw, I say Grapp plays, Black sits...meaning that's what should happen if Black's available.

Good pressure by the 'Dogs several times to the point where for a minute I saw the Sioux default defence from a few years ago, ie: everybody, as in all five skaters, just stand in front of the net and hope it doesn't go in.

JLam with two good right crosses on two 'Dogs who invaded her personal space just after the whistle which was blown for her having just decked McParland.

Forgot to mention that Caitlin Tate had addressed UMD in their dressing room just before the game...nice touch...both ways.

The Scholar/Athlete Awards were broadcast on the ice after the game. Very nice to see. Congratulations to Audrey Cournoyer and Vanessa Thibault.

Lots of video with Hanson tonight. Extremely impressive new format with the live video interviews as previously mentioned. Looking very professional. For a program with the history and shiny new top notch facility that it has I'd say that it was overdue compared to some formats I've seen from substantially less successful programs and facilities.

I've also never heard Hanson sound so professional and on top of things...maybe being on camera created focus...all to the good.

Except the quality of the video during the game. Terrible lapse.

UND 0 - UMD 0 after one.

Black back in net. Too bad for Grapp. But Hanson just interviewed her live after the period.

Gorgeous drop pass by Dufault to one of the Lams...almost looked impossible to accomplish. She's all over the ice. And Tom, it's pronounced Doo Foe.

No change in the video quality tonight...going snow blind would appear to be a pressing possibility.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

UND 2 - UMD 2 after two. SOG UND 19 - UMD 10. A replay of last night as far as SOG are concerned ie: 2 to 1.

UND jumped out into the lead early in the second period with 2 quick goals.

'Dogs couldn't seem to finish and had several attempts. No one seemed to be in position in front when the centering pass came.

Then Wilson scored a beautiful goal skating around the defence and then firing (she roofed it) 2 hole after a gorgeous pass from Lacquette.

Then Kenyon, but it looked like McParland, in front with barely any wood on it after stretching for it and it slowly slid 5 hole on Amsley- Benzie.

Nice live interview with Wilson right after the period ended.

Dufault is all over the ice...drew a penalty from UMD.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

UND 2 - UMD 2 after regulation time. Going to OT.

UND with PP with 2:35 left in the game but UMD held them off.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Going to Shoot Out. SOG 43 - 18 for UND!!

'Dogs were hemmed in to there own end for most of the OT. During the third period during a UMD PP UND had more shots on goal than the 'Dogs did!

They need a PP for next year...PK is strong.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

`Dogs win the shoot out!!!!

With Lacquette on the bench encouraged by Miller to take the last shot after Wong was not allowed to shoot a second time.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

In a word: inconceivable.

At least there was some tension in the final couple weeks of the regular season...

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Correction on SOG according to Hanson: UND 48 - UMD 15

JLam tried that spinarama move on UND`s first shoot out attempt tonight that she undressed Raty with a couple of years ago on a breakaway during a game...and she undressed Black as well. I guess Black never saw the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj7jpz6KS-o&feature=player_embedded

In spite of their banged up year the `Dogs have shown several times this season that they can still play with the best teams in the country, when they have the collective will to do so. Winning those games just happens to be another matter.

They broadcast the Seniors` Night celebrations...very nice.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Kept me on edge of my seat last few minutes and OT. Nice to see them win a close one like this. Liked winning shot - nothing fancy just a good hard shot.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Tied 2-2 in OT.

Time was very short causing the above error and I also could have explained the situation better but I didn't want to miss any of the action.

It should have read "Tied after the shootout"...meaning the first 3 rounds. UMD won in the 4th round.

The only attempt on which UMD did not score was their initial one where Winberg didn't seem sure about what she wanted to do and as a consequence the puck rolled off her stick to Amsley-Benzie's right resulting in no shot being taken.

For more detail from the box score re: shooters and in which order things unfolded...
