UMD 2010-11 Season

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Pernilla grabs POTW honors! And the day before her birthday! That was a great performance last week and I hope to see more of the same through the next couple weeks!

Yes, big congrats to her . . . pretty special those 4 goals in a row! I she could turn her game up a notch, like you said, then UMD's chances of repeating go up immeasurably.

GO DOGS!!

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

One down, one to go. I felt like it was a little low energy out there tonight. Wasn't sure if that was the girls sitting back on their heels or trying to find chemistry with the lines mixed up a bit? Thoughts?

Great to see Irwin back. She still seems tentative around the boards and rightfully so. I'd rather her protect her noggin' to keep getting stronger for any upcoming games. I was grateful for clean play tonight.

It will be good to get Wong back in there again as she's such a great all around player. But it was also great to see Kenyon earning a spot on the starting line, too.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Everything seemed a bit off for the first two periods even with the one goal early on. Their play looked kind of sloppy and wide open and just not focused too well. But they clicked in the third period and got the job done and that's what matters.

Anybody know what's up with Wong? She was walking around the arena and looked okay, so maybe she was just sick or something. I hope it's nothing serious.

Nobody wants to have to come back on Sunday and that's not going to happen. So it's on to Ridder and another WCHA title.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I agree the 'dogs looked not quite on last nite - I thought Mankato played fairly well also, - esp. in the 2nd. Thought 'kato's goalie played well also. She didn't look like that big a woman but she sure could fill that goal up. Also wondering 'bout Wong. All in all a nice win for the Bulldogs

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Wong was sitting out her Fighting major from Saturday night

Last night was a real stinker of a game, especially since I was there shooting for the DNT, besides my own website shots... not a lot of good action, all sloppy play the first two periods. Third period was better but I was dealing with finding photos to submit a great part of that and only saw most of the action from the scoreboard cam

What I saw was a team that forgot how to play after 17 goals last week..trying to make Sportscenter 'top 10' passes and one timers instead of just putting the puck on Altmann. Better quality shots will decide the game early for UMD tonight. If Mankato had any goal scorers besides Rogan but could have made last night's play tough on UMD

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Okay Bulldog fans! Two and done and on our way to Ridder. I applaud Mankato for working their butts off in both games. It takes a good team, and good athletes to keep fighting the good fight regardless of standings and rankings. It was a pretty clean game too, thank god. I just hope the friendly fire from Wong that hit Friddy's wrist isn't too serious. It usually takes a lot for Friddy to wince and need to get off the ice... ugh.

Seemed like a much better game with good passing and just overall good connection. I trust Miller to get her team to be super focused and ready to peak for this upcoming weekend.

Who's heading south to support the 'Dogs?

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I'd like to head down, but I'll have to stay up and shoot the UMD men playing UNO. The Women need to win the WCHA tourney so last night wasn't my last UMD women's game of the season ;)

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

As much as it was painful to have Haley off the ice, I'd love to see that Wong, Laraoque, Winberg, Holmlov, Gillanders combo again. They were really doing some great things out there. That said, all three of the lines were producing well this Sat so why ruin a good thing?

I predict that we'll see Martin in Goal? Both she and Harss seem to have found their stride so that's a tough choice.

Irwin has seemed a little tentative around the boards and the contact plays-- and rightfully so with the concussion. I just pray that she continues to get shots off, but play it safe both from a penalty AND and health standpoint.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

It was nice to also see Cournoyer find her stride in the past few weeks. I hope more of last year's Wonder Team steps up. Who knows? They surprised everyone last year. Maybe they have a few more surprises.

I wouldn't care if Haley doesn't score another point the rest of the way as long as she stays healthy.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

With 5 assists in UMD's 8 goals on the weekend.. I'd say Irwin did plenty of damage in the series.

I wasn't suggesting that she wasn't on her game at all. Just mindful of the boards and the contact. And as far as her not scoring a goal as stated by Schmoe, my gut tells me that he was suggesting that she keep doing what she's been doing the last few games. The goals don't need to go in if she's assisting like a crazy woman!

It could be a bit of a blessing maybe.. if she figures out that she doesn't have to do some of the stuff she used to yet can still dominate out there. We'll see if that holds true in the next 2 games plus any further postseason games for the 'Dogs.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Paige Turner of Duluth Northern Stars, and Minnesota Thoroughbreds (for those that don't know who she is).. WILL be wearing a Bulldog uniform next year....found out last Friday.. never got around to posting it here. There was a tiny bit of doubt on some people's parts when she didn't sign during the early signing period.

I think that's great news (confirmed) for the 'Dogs. My guess is that'll be it for tenders. Jenny #1, with Lana and Paige competing for #2 . . . Looking forward to it!

I've always wondered what Steck could have been.. if she hadn't gotten injured a couple times when she would have gotten some playing time

I'm still hopeful that we will have a chance to see that her senior year. I suspect that Turner is a walk on and I, too, would really like to see Steck shine.
