UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

For those that are number crunchers...
College Hockey News ‏@chnews 1h
New Pairwise/RPI calculation ... home losses/road wins will be weighted by a factor of 1.2 ... whereas home wins/road losses will weight 0.8

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

I'm not sure. I haven't made any plans for either of these trips. Air fare to Detriot looks high compared to last time Lowell played out there. I would like to check out the new Penn State rink. Any word if tickets for these games will be available through UML?

Talked to Scott and it doesn't look promising for Penn State tickets through UML. Bummer. They're pretty expensive on StubHub.

I thought teams were required to set aside visitor's tickets?

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Can somebody get in touch to ask what the rules are on these things?
The visitor ticket allotment is sent to the visiting team athletic department or ticket office. I don't know how they are distributed at UML, but at BC the away game tickets are available to season ticket holders. For a game that is in high demand, there is a pecking order on who gets first dibs on tickets. Any unsold tickets are then returned to the home team prior to the game and are then the property of the home team to do with what they want. (I believe for a Friday game, the visitor tickets that were unsold are dropped in the mail to the home team on Monday or Tuesday, so they can have them up for sale by the day of the game).

Visitor ticket allotments are a Hockey East rule I believe.

Edit: Just noticed you are talking about Penn St. I thought you were talking ND. Penn State is not in HE, so I doubt there is any rule requirement to provide visitor tix, although most teams usually do as a courtesy. i've been to many away games against non conference teams and have always gotten the visitor tix through the BC ticket office.

Yeah, I doubted there were NCAA rules per se. However, if this is how PSU wants to do it, I see no reason not to do it back when the time comes.

Agreed. Tell 'em to F off.

I say do it right and show them how a class act does it.

This would assume they can understand class. I wouldn't expect that of a mega-large athletic powerhouse. I'd sooner boot any cars w PA plates.

So I'll be that guy. Hard to tell a school that allowed a pedophile to hang around for years to be classy...

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

I have no knowledge of this specific situation, but generally the away ticket section and the comped tickets for the away team's families (which is an actual written rule) are in the same section. It is possible that PSU has a smaller than normal away section, and the UML families had a higher than normal demand so that UML either already ran out, or is holding off on selling the remaining few tickets to make sure all the families are covered. It is also possible PSU is being jerks.

I called the Penn State ticket office today. They will NOT be selling individual game tickets as they have sold out the entire arena with season ticket holders (the person I spoke with said there are 6 tickets left for season ticket sales in the entire arena) and they weren't told to put aside anything for a visitors section.

I agree, as a slap in the face to Penn State, Lowell should sell out their entire arena to seaons ticket holders.

Uh huh. Visiting fan allotments are done for other sports. Me thinks this was a convenient decision.

How convenient. I am sure the rookies to the league know better than to do that.
