UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

The team has used the Tully over the years when the Tsongas is not available. Marty Meehan recently announced plans for a practice rink to be built that would be connected to the Tsongas. No time line was mentioned. I'm not sure what the plans are for the hoop teams. I could see some games at the Tsongas but I'm not sure if they plan to play all the games there.

Looking at the men's basketball schedule for America East this past season, a majority of their games were played on Wednesdays and Saturdays. My guess is that the hockey team would do a mid-morning skate, be off the ice by noon, and have the bull crew put the floor down and be ready to go for a 7:00 game at night. If there are other scheduling conflicts, the team would continue to use the Tully.

It is rumored that the basketball men will play most, if not all, their games at the Tsongas because of NCAA D1 regulations. Not sure how the women's schedule will shake out but there could be some basketball double-headers lined up.

Sunday is a much lesser played game in college basketball... That being said, if there is any sense in the world they will make them Sunday games so they don't **** with the ice

I am hoping it is the mid 50s to near 60 degrees without a cloud in the sky that day. All of hockey is just going overboard with these outdoor games. It's becoming too saturated and taking any type of special feel out of the game. That, and who the hell wants to sit outside if it is say 10 degrees with a windchill of -15 and watch a game where you can't actually see what's going on? No thanks. I'll pass.

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

This Frozen Fenway crap is typical Bertagna.

The part I find funniest is that the headline on the NESN story is: Lowell to Headline Frozen Fenway.

If ANYONE can logically explain to me how playing the early game on the second weekend is "headlining" I'll give them $50.

Last year Lowell, an original Hockey East team, was pathetically past over for Amherst (joined in 94) and Vermont (05). This year, after winning the RS, HE Tournament, NE Regional, going to the Frozen Four, they get passed over by Notre Dame (13). Instead, they get to play the worst team in the league in the early game on the second weekend in the third installment of the series. And get mocked with the term "headlining" to boot.

I expect this from Bertagna. He's always been anti-Lowell; it's obvious and he never passes up an opportunity to screw the program over whenever he gets the chance.

What I don't expect, what I absolutely cannot stomach is why the University continues to take this lying down. Nothing from Marty, from Dana or from Norm. If you want your program to be taken seriously, then say something while the league and it's wretched commissioner are ****ing all over you. Coach sat there on NESN smiling, eating the crap sandwich they were serving and asking for seconds. How about a "Well we're honored to be a part of this. Not sure where the "headliner" comes from, we figured being league champs would draw a prime-time slot, but I guess not." What's HE going to do, take you out of the event after you call them on their bull****? They have no valid argument for pushing Lowell to the pay-no-mind game. Lowell can draw a crowd, just ask the Garden, the Verizon Wireless Arena and Consol Energy Center. Then they ask about the impact on recruiting. What a joke. It's not going to do a **** thing for recruiting. You think a recruit is going to think an early game against the worst opponent in the league on the third bite of the same frozen apple means your league respects you? That's literally the stupidest idea I've ever heard. Winning helps recruiting. What this team did this year helps recruiting. The BANNER at the Garden helps recruiting. This game is nothing more than hockey's version of a pity date and it's pathetic.

I advise Lowell fans to stay home and watch on TV. Don't give them a dime for this fraud of a game. Aside from the fact that the sight lines suck, the seats suck and Fenway Park is a relic badly in need of demolition, as Lowell fans with pride in their team, please for once stand up and tell Bertagna to kindly **** off.

Pittsburgh Attendance. By The Onion Man or whatever his name is. Oddly enough, he has Meehan mentioned in his location/whatever field.

Nothing I wrote was a lie and I did NOT delete it. Not sure who did, but it wasn't me. I sat almost directly behind the goal with the Lowell fans on my left and the fans on the glass were the worst I've seen in my 15 years worth of FF visits. If you didn't see it, you werent' sitting in a place that you could, otherwise it was unmistakable. One Lowell fan (likely a student) was thrown out, found his way back into the rink and was subsequently thrown out again. Like I said, your fans clearly acted like those who hadn't been there before and many fans around us (mostly western fans) couldn't believe how bad many UML fan's behavior was. Not all of course, just a very loud minority right on the glass.

Labeling all fans on the basis of a few is kind of silly. I find it highly unlikely with the security they have at the rink for these things that anyone was 'thrown out and made their way back in.' Not sure what happened but with the whining you have done in the past about things I am not impressed that you were exposed to the 'worst' fans ever. Some people just need the glass to be half empty with a hole in it.

With what I'm guessing onion.... It was a student. We have some fans that believe they are the end all be all. But in NO case do I believe we are as a whole, the worst fans ever. The union fans wanted to fight us last year even after they won last year ... And I'm not even going to begin to talk about some families I've come into contact in certain away arenas in HE!

When someone's kids flip me off and tell me to **** off, when telling the father about what their children are doing he snaps back at me and I quote, " This is our rink! They can do whatever they want!"

Horse. Why don't you go find some other fan base to bother.

Edit: you spat on our entire fan base on the basis of one clown? And it took you well over a week to event mention it. You haven't been shy in the past, why now?

Now if that happened at the Tsongas, the father would just say something like "He doesn't know better" or claim that we should be more respectful of visiting fans.

Things like that are why TIIL was made and will be missed so much

If that happens at Tsongas then it is time to work it up the chain. If the ushers don't listen then pass it higher to UML staff. Contact Peter Casey or Dana Skinner if you need to.

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Bazin just mentioned that playing at Fenway does help with recruiting, and it's also great from the POV of the local players (Arnold, Pendenza, etc).

So as much as it sucks that we're the last HE team to play in this ... remember it's a good thing for the guys on the ice.

According to the NU press release, the Fenway game will be a non-conference game.

Hockey East released a tentative 2013-14 conference schedule on March 22, 2013. As it stands, Northeastern and UML will collide in two regular season games on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9, 2013, before the Fenway Park fracas. Because the conference schedule has been cut from 27 league games to 22 this season, the UML-NU game will not count towards conference standings.

So if you've missed it ... UMass is having a bit of a tough go of it right now.

Kevin Boyle (2 years left) and TJ Tiefenwerth (3 years) have left the program. NU's transfer to UMass (Dongara) sat out this year, but will not be joining the team next year as expected.

Just confirmed with a #UMassHockey source that goalie Kevin Boyle will not be asked back next season. Essentially he is cut #HockeyEast

Confirmed with a #UMassHockey source that in addition to goalie Kevin Boyle, K.J. Tiefenwerth will also not be back next season. #HockeyEast
Jeff Cox ‏@JeffCoxSBNation 12h
I'm hearing even after Boyle, Dongara, there will be 4-5 more players leaving UMass early. 3-4 forwards and 1 defenseman.
Jeff Cox ‏@JeffCoxSBNation 7m
Heard other names besides Tiefenwerth so either more cuts are coming or I heard wrong, but my source was right on Boyle so we'll see.
According to one person at least, these are "cuts."

Some addtional tweets.

May have already been reported but I was also told that UMass is also cutting scholarship money to returning players.

many believe Coach Mick is making cuts to bring in money for his recruits

It seems kind of late to have to fill a bunch of roster spots for next season.

Just calling it like it was, friend. I didn't mention it because I had better things to do than languish on an internet message board. It's good to see fellow "flash in the pan" schools have some success, but you'd think Lowell fans thought they'd become Minnesota, BC or Michigan fans all of a sudden. I'm going to make peace with you guys and move on, but nothing I"ve said about the fan behavior was a lie or embellished one bit.

So lying about the whole group is your reaction. I recall you call us vile and maybe even vulgar. And it took you over a week to express that reaction. Real courageous there buddy and certainly not the feedback I got.

Trust me, I have no problem tossing chuckleheads off the bus. That doesn't justify your garbage.

Of course but this is when we were at another arena and we weren't rowdy or inconsiderate

Don't get me wrong the students do have certain ppl that are very proud people but they won't get themselves in a situation unless provoked. So I'm guessing a person got in their face about something... And again it's only one person you shouldn't come to conclusions.
Oh and also NEVER compare us to BC fans... Unless its a former alumni who writes on this forum... We want to be different than them

Also this is addressed to onion
