UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

If you haven't seen TIIL's post-mortem, it's here. The sad news is at the bottom of the post, as they're done with the blog.

Did anyone get a chance to watch or go to the celebration? How was it? Any new information about the program?

Very well put together event. Norm mentioned that he was on the phone earlier in the day with Minn-Duluth for scheduling reasons.

Where do we stand for scheduling purposes... last I've heard

Quinnipiac
@Quinnipiac
vs. UMass (location uncertain)
@Michigan x?
@Michigan State x?
...

and I've forgotten the rest :o Oops! :p

---

I have to imagine we're putting together one of the toughest schedules in school history. Nothing wrong with that, part of the evolution.

edit: we have 14 slots to fill overall barring a surprise trip to Alaska.

There should be 2 at home vs Clarkson and another game vs Bentley and or Harvard. That still leaves about 5
more NC games not announced.

Was harvard a two game deal? Why do I think the Bentley one is @Bentley.

As a fan of college hockey I like the more wide open schedule. As a fan of the butts in the seats its going to take quite a bit to get people used to this new normal.

I also heard that if there is game with Bentley it would be a road game. As for Harvard, I'm not sure if it was a 2 game deal
but I thought it just might be.

I believe Harvard will be at Lowell next season.

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Final CSB rankings are out ... no Lowell recruits listed this time.

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Well didn't see that one coming. MBB news:
Alex Kline ‏@TheRecruitScoop 9m
RT @GoodmanCBS: Fairleigh Dickinson will introduce UMass-Lowell's Greg Herenda Friday as it's head coach.

That's ok. UML will find a Norm-like coach for the basketball team and they'll be in the Final Four in just a few years. :D

By find you mean "clone", yes?

See, this is why I still won't care for basketball, that whole game is a lot of mind-warp and the stuff. At least with the "Olympic" (not f-ball, b-ball, or hockey) sports you can build your program and build your within sport prestige.

Do well in basketball and your coach is signing with Purdue as the final buzzer sounds.

Now, if we can get some of the other things going good... We have an advantage in that we are suburban. Good mix of people and interest with the ability to build interest via families and we aren't terribly difficult to reach.

I think we could really develop the other sports... But basketball is just a lot of luck in a lot of ways. It's very markov-ian (behaving like a Markov process) in that you get a good batch of players and you are set for a decade but you can also slip out. The others are better suited towards tangible growth.

In an odd way, my goal would to be improve on all the other sports and then basketball is far more likely to follow. Otherwise I think you would drain a lot of money chasing the reverse. Set the table for emergence.
