UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

Much stiffer challenge coming from UConn this weekend.

This right here. I am a tad nervous as UConn has come out of the gate unsatisfactory, and with this being a conference matchup, this will be a REALLY tough matchup. UConn has a lot to prove.

Last 8 matchups with these two (going back to the 2019/2020 season) are about as even as it gets. Lowell leads the series 4-3-1. At home, Lowell is 3-1-0 with a 10-5 GD (last home loss was in the 19/20 season). On the road, Lowell is 1-2-1 with a 8-10 GD (only win in the 21/22 season).

Not sure where you got this info from, but it's wrong. Going back to 2019-20, Lowell is 6-3-1 against UConn, including a 2-1 win at Storrs in the Quarterfinals last season. At home, Lowell is 4-1-0 over that span (with a 13-7 GD), and on the road they are 2-2-1 (with a 10-11 GD), including 2-0-0 in Storrs (old rink in 2020, new rink this past March). Lowell lost the only game in Hartford during the 21/22 season. [TABLE="width: 535"]

playoffs vs not? I know that doesn't line up with UMLFan's goal diff at home *shrug*

*shrug*

As you know these uconn games are often frustrating because early on in the more recent era we didn't take them serious enough and took bad losses and I'm sure I'll hear it from the uconn side.

So naturally I want to win both nights by 7

Wow, I can't believe Scout Truman didn't make the HE Top Performers lists after getting 6 assists in 2 games at Colgate.
You know, looking through the list of those "Top Performers" I actually get almost all of them being on before Scout Truman because of the competition those teams faced (Denver, Notre Dame, Q, etc). But then you've got a Merrimack player who had four helpers (against Clarkson and St. Lawrence) and that's somehow better than the six that Scout had?

Probably just an oversite. Ben Meehan made the list with 2 assists for the weekend.

Entertaining game. Great crowd and penalty kill and Pavicich was outstanding. Other than that, per usual can’t score and can’t close out with the other team pulling the goalie.

I thought they were going to steal one tonight. Huge game by Pavicich, it could have easily been 5-1 or 6-1. I thought UConn out played the Hawks for much of the night. They looked faster, quicker and stronger. The Hawks had a hard time getting the puck out of their own zone, they looked slow and a step behind. Hoping for the best tomorrow at UConn.

1-0 Final Lowell. Great goaltending by Henry Welsh (46 saves) and penalty killing. The Hawks had to kill off a 5 on 3 for 2 minutes with less than 5 to go in the third.

Good to get the split, but man these two teams play close games. Only 2 goals scored this weekend and the only reason for any points was that the netminders were outstanding (86 saves in two games). That's too many shots getting through.

Agree about the number of shots on goal, way too many. They'll need to fix that with BC coming up. They'll also need to eliminate the bad penalties. The two late penalties, after the whistle, that gave UConn a 5 on 3 were just unnecessary. Need to play smarter, especially with a one goal lead.

Did anyone else have an issue with the sound system Friday night? It was hard to hear what was being said.

Congratulations to the Field Hockey Team for their first AE Regular Season Title. They finished tied with Albany, as both went 7-1 in league play. The 14-3 River Hawks will be be hosting the AE Championship, with their first game being Friday. Go Lowell!

I don't usually pay too much attention to the polls this early, but based on this week's USCHO poll, Lowell will be facing the #1 team (BC) in the country this coming weekend.
Other HE teams in the top 20, #7 PC, #9 BU, #15 UNH, #18 UMA and #20 Maine. The Hawks received 41 points for #23.

UNH, UMA and Maine are off to good starts with some impressive early wins. The league is going to be very tough this year.

Looking at the size and age of some of our players, I suppose I'm not overly surprised that we're the second "heaviest" team in the NCAAs. Interesting look at some stats like where players are from in this article.
