UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

Carpentier was at Yale for three years, played 83 games and has a 25-19-44 line. At this point, we need all the offensive help we can get.

He was Yale's leading scorer in 21-22 and 22-23, and was 3rd on the team this past season. He also led them in goals in 21-22 and 22-23, and was 1 off the team lead this past season.

Averaging a point every other game. He'll fit right in. (Just teasing!);)

Ben back is that good or not.

I think it's a good thing. I would expect Ben to come back determined and with something to prove after the Kings didn't offer him a contract. The defense should be solid and hopefully we'll see a vast improvement in puck movement and the ability to get shots on net from the point.

If Heisenberg is right, we have 5 defensemen that will all be on their last year (or at least potentially, as Jonsson would have one more year if he wanted it) and only one underclass blue liner. Again, if Heisenberg is right, we could have as many as 6 freshmen defensemen for the 25/26 season, which could result in a clown show.

Monty, good point about the defense for 25/26, and I don't believe Jonsson will have another year of eligibility. I also think at least a couple of the freshmen will be pushed out to 26/27, so it looks like they'll have to depend on the portal again next season for a couple of experienced defensemen.

25/26 roster

Defense (9):
Seniors: Mitchell Becker, T.J. Schweighardt
Juniors: Sean Kilcullen
Sophomore:
Freshmen: Daniel Buchbinder, Daniil Dolzhenko, Rowan Guest, Ryan Kroll, Cullen McCrate, Carsen Olsen

For 24/25, with Meehan coming back, they currently have 8 defensemen. There should be room for at least one more. Do they bring in another portal player or Daniil Dolzhenko? Either way playing time could be limited.

24/25 roster

Defense (8):
Seniors: Nick Andrews, Pierson Brandon, Isac Jonsson, Jack Robilotti, Ben Meehan
Juniors: Mitchell Becker, T.J. Schweighardt
Sophomore: Sean Kilcullen
Freshmen:

Shawn O'Donnell to portal per Gopher Puck https://gopherpucklive.com/transfer-portal/

The best of luck to Shawn. A lot of players still looking for a place to play.

Some NCAA hockey portal numbers:
Total Entries: 315
Commitments: 151 (47.9%)

Also, the portal window closes in 19 days (May 14). After that, the only players that can enter the portal are ones who had their aid cut or if their team underwent a change at head coach.

Other sports:

Baseball went 6-12 on their season opening road trip and have gone 14-10 since coming back, including winning at BC Tuesday. They're currently 3rd in AE with a 9-8 record, with 6 league games left (10 in total). Their last two AE series are at last place Albany (6-11) starting tomorrow and then next weekend hosting NJIT (6-8).

Men's lacrosse season is over, they went 0-12. They were outscored by 8.6 goals per game, averaging 6.6 while allowing 15.2. Ouch. And that's actually worse than last year's differential of 7.8.

Women's lacrosse finished their best ever regular season with a 12-5 record (3-3 in AE). Their first ever playoff game will be at Albany tomorrow. They lost 10-7 at Albany a couple of weeks ago.

Softball is currently 12-26 (6-10, 5th of 6 AE teams). They end their season with a three game series at 1st place Binghamton this weekend starting tomorrow. I'm not sure the tiebreakers, but they would need a sweep and 4th pace UMBC to be swept to have a shot at the playoffs.

A bit surprised at this date, the portal closes a week from today. The best of luck to him, hopefully he finds a place to play.
