UMass Lowell 2022-2023: Valley Steamroller Edition

MBB 7-1 Lowell plays 7-1 UMass Thursday. And don't argue the record with me I don't count non-D1 opponents

edit: According to the NCAA's new rating system for MBB which replaces RPI Lowell on the border of an at-large bid right now (#53)... excuse me while I go giggle myself to sleep.

I don't understand why they play D3 schools. I see other America East teams do the same.

D3 schools often mean an easy tune up game and a free home win. It also means you can goose the end of season win count to impress recruits. They don't need to know two of those was against a school whose enrollment is 1500.

Heck. The meac and the swac load up 5 or 6 of them. Then again the HBCUs have often left sports as an afterthought.

I've been impressed by their start to the season, and seeing as they were picked 3rd in the preseason poll in America East was exciting. They played Rutgers close, and now have a four game stretch before they get into league play that will tell fans if this team is real or not; at 9-1 UMass, 4-4 St. Francis Brooklyn (which has already beaten one AE team this season), at 2-6 URI, and home v 5-4 BU (which is 2-0 against AE teams). Not exactly a gauntlet, but a bit more sturdy competition that say Emerson and Fisher College.

i was shocked by how terrible LIU was considering they're downstream of LIU-Brooklyn's successful years. Lowell has one of the worst strength of schedules going so far so yes. It will be a test. If they're for real they'll lose to ZooMass but beat the other 3.

Things are getting proper weird. Espn, and I don't know which sports book they use for lines, umass at home is only a 2 point favorite.

We living in a different world all of the sudden.

Good win for the basketball team. They held on at the end, but the key part is that they held on. 10-1 on the season. Three games before they head to league play. St. Francis Brooklyn at home on Saturday at Tsongas sure worries me as a trap game.

Back to hockey ... last game before the break. Getting a win puts them at 10-6-1 prior to the three week break. They'll be at worst 7th in Hockey East when the second half starts, but with games in hand on every team above them except for a shocking Merrimack team that's in second. I'd love to see this offense improve, and soon.

Full credit to Merrimack. I didn't think I'd see the day where they'd be 3rd in the Pairwise (yes, it's December). Still pretty awesome for that program. They're fully taking advantage of their play so far this year on the recruiting side as well, as they picked up two more commits this weekend, including their 4th '06. Merrimack now has 24 future commitments. Merrimack.

Bearer of bad news here. I think most of us on here knew him, so wanted to pass this along. Tony Patronick passed away a couple of days ago. Huge fan of Lowell hockey. Tough loss of a friend. Condolences to his family.

Terrible news, RIP Tony.

It was awful. I really don’t understand why Norm schedules teams like this. It does Lowell no good to win and tremendous harm to lose. I thought the team played a lot better tonight than they did against Dartmouth, they just couldn’t finish. Hit at least 3 posts. I can’t go tomorrow night and I am kind of glad.

the reality is this team doesn't have the talent to reliably put away one of the worst teams in the nation. The power play is a testament to their inability to control passes.
