UMass Lowell 2022-2023: Valley Steamroller Edition

Anyone hear anything about armstrong kinkade? He had a great season before the injury bug hit him

Looks like he's in tonight's lineup.

Listened to Bob on the stream, sounded like quite a game. Welch finally had a good outing, especially in the 3rd with all the penalties. Would be interesting to see the tape. Berglund and Chambers seem to be providing some quality leadership.

I was going to laugh about the MSU penalty train because often, especially the last couple of years, we'd be on the penalty train... but then we went on the penalty train. Thankfully we survived and I didn't see the video but man... a little less penalties guys?

After a 3 and 2 start (I was hoping for at least 4 and 1) for the Hawks, they begin league play with a single game at NU. The next 3 games (@NU, BU, @BU) should be a real good early season test for the team. Both teams are loaded with talent and skill. The Hawks will need to step up their game and limit their mistakes and penalties. One game at a time. NESN will broadcast the Saturday night game at NU at 7:00 pm.

They were stuck in their defensive zone a lot, and had little to no offensive zone pressure pretty much all gone. Just 9 shots through 2 periods isn't going to be good enough in general. A good win nonetheless.

Lowell moves up 1 spot to 18th in the USCHO Poll. Two huge games against BU this weekend. I'd like to see a little bit more on the offensive side of things this weekend. Power play has to get better from 16.7% (shorthanded at 84% is good).

And yes, it's picking and choosing stats, but if you take out the 2 Miami games (39 shots in each), the other four games we are averaging just 22.5 shots per game. I'd also like to see us reduce our almost 5 penalties taken per game. BU is coming in scoring on 24.7% of their power plays, which means we need to do our best to stay out of the box. Outside of their horrid game against BU, they're only giving up 2.5 goals per game.

I think there's a lot that needs be shown from this group to have any faith in success this season. I think their general control of the puck over the years has degraded as well as a degree of quickness compared to what we are used to seeing from Lowell teams. I think that's leading to a lot of our offensive issues and woes. when pucks are routinely skipping over sticks or not being controlled that takes away opportunities.

Coming from a BU fan, I think Lowell is always a tough team to play against for BU. If Lowell just plays their system, they will limit BU, but just need to capitalize when they can. Uconn was causing havoc in BU's zone Friday and getting scoring opportunities when BU made mistakes. If UML's goalies play fine should be a good series.

I still feel like we're on borrowed time, especially with the offensive zone but i'll take every point we get. I'm greedy like that.

I watched most of the third. That they missed two blatant calls against BU then started to run train on us is very frustrating

I expected a big push from BU in the 3rd but not enough offense from Lowell to close that one out. Need more than 3 shots in any period.

Overall I’d consider 4 of 6 points a good weekend.

I agree. They were spending way too much time in their own zone in the final few minutes and were looking tired. They caught a break with the late BU goal being disallowed and had a chance to win it in overtime. A tough loss but a great effort both nights by the team. Hopefully they can get the offense going next weekend against UVM.

We keep getting stuck in our own zone late in games. We barely survived when BU had their goalie pulled on Friday, and didn't on Saturday. The three Hockey East games so far we've been outshot 12-8, 12-9 and 16-3 in the third. In each of those games, Lowell had the lead going into the third, and just couldn't find the goal that could have put any of those games away.

What's the deal with no fried dough concession??? It's the main thing I always look forward to when going to Tsongas. Did you really need a second Dippin' Dots concession?
