UMass Lowell 2022-2023: Valley Steamroller Edition

In his first shift of his first NHL game, Lucas Condotta scored his first NHL goal against the Bruins last night. Not really surprised, as Condotta has scored against Swayman before. He got his 2nd career collegiate goal against Swayman up in Orono in November of 2018 (credit to Russ Bedel on the research of that one last night).

Norm Bazin was hired as the 6th head coach in Lowell hockey history 12 years ago today. I'd say that was a good choice.

Don't know enough about him to know what type of player we're getting. 101 games played, 17-19-36.
I watched some Big10 games, including the Michigan vs. Harvard games, Penn State and Minnesota games, and the slaughterhouse regional game against Colgate. Very good skater and quick. Will be noticeable. I would say he is like a Conner Wilson type, but a better skater than Conner. Hope that helps.

Grano will be a 25 year old grad student next year.

can provide penalty kill, clean up some loose rebounds around the net. Decent skater.

may have potential to increase point production from 10 to 15-20 if received more playing time.

he was not a regular his first 3 years with all the forward talent at Michigan. Found a role this year. Disciplined role player.

I've been told that Edvard Nordlund will indeed be coming back next season despite going in the portal earlier.

According to the Omaha 2023-24 schedule press release, the Hawks will be playing in the ASU Desert Classic next season, January 5 & 6.

The Mavericks will open up the second second half of the season at the Desert Hockey Classic, January 5-6. It will be Omaha's first regular season tournament action since winning the Brice Alaska Goal Rush championship in October of 2016. The Arizona State hosted tournament will also feature Harvard and UMass Lowell.

Sad news.

Sad to learn that former @hockey_east Rookie of the Year Peter Vetri, a goaltender who played at both
@RiverHawkHockey and @QU_MIH passed away suddenly this week. Read back to the story I wrote in 2005 when he won ROY. Beat out Chris Bourque for the award.

Well ... f...

RIP, Peter. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Way too damn young.

With tonight's walkoff win in baseball over UMass (after blowing an 8-2 lead in the top of the 9th), Lowell has officially clinched the Kennedy Cup after UMass won it the previous 2 years.
