Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

There is a lot of hockey left to be played, but this looks like a team that's going to finish 4th or 5th and fall short of an NCAA birth again. Northeastern dominated them throughout the second half of this game. I agree that Boyle helped steal a point in this one.

Well with today's blown point, we've already fallen to third in HE, and the teams in front of us have a game in hand (BC) or 2 games in hand (ND). PC and BU are three points behind us, but PC has 2 games in hand while BU has 1, and of course we've got the huge home and home against BU coming up.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I will give NU credit, because they didn't quit in this game. In the meantime, Lowell did. If I'm not mistaken, shots early in the second were 18-4. And then Lowell called it a day. Boyle gets full credit for stealing us a point. Also it must have been a sad moment for him, feeling like he was playing behind the UMass defense again. Horrendous giveaways in front of the net (three chances to clear, at least) resulting in the first goal. He kept us in the game, with some astounding saves. I don't have much good to say about most of the other 19.

That pretty much sums it up. It was like they were trying to give the game away with some of those turnovers and mistakes.

What's going on with the PP?? It's time to blow it up and go back to having two defensemen and stop that drop pass with everyone standing still.

Hopefully Gage Hough is ok. It looked like he hurt his arm/wrist.

UUTeff. I wan'ted a cattle prod to zap the D who kept passing into the center in front of the net. Jeebus! You get taught not to do that in Learn to Play. And if you are seemingly going to pause for thought to make the right play why do you pass to the guy on the other team? Tough game to watch.

A strange game to watch. They played a solid first period and seemed to be in control. After that it looked like they checked out. They'll need to play a solid 60 minutes tonight against UNH.

Our radio guys had total attempts at 27-6 UML in P1, 20-18 UML in P2, then 27-12 NU in the third. Exactly as you said, NU didn't give up. Always a good game versus y'all, hope you finish strong

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

It would be nice if the A game showed up tonight for 60 minutes. It made a brief cameo last night after our TO but yeah, Monty nailed it.

Also, that pass to our low slot from the corner? We've been doing it all season, but usually, we check to see if someone on the other team is there first. We didn't last night, but then, we were passing to Huskies for almost two full periods. Please note, I still hate it, just pointing out that it's not new.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Last night's tie guaranteed that Lowell will host a playoff series this season. If they play like they did in the 2nd or 3rd period, that series will be the 1st weekend in March, not the 2nd weekend. A win tonight guarantees that Lowell can finish no lower than 5th.

If you really want to think positive (not the easiest thing to do after watching last night), a win tonight and a sweep next weekend guarantees a 1st round bye. :)

UNH watched game tapes. They had someone there to receive that pass. Did anyone else feel thankful they were waiting for the drop pass in the PP so we didn't do it?

If you just look at the game stats and weren't watching it looks really impressive.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Another tough one tonight. The team played well but the inability to put the puck into the net cost them again. They were all over UNH in that 1st period and I thought they controlled much of the game. A lot of quality shots but also a lot of shots that missed the net all together or got blocked. The offense continues to be an issue.

Give UNH credit they converted on a couple of mistakes and that was the difference. A terrible turn over by the Hawks on the 2nd UNH goal. I hope Norm get's a video copy of that perfectly executed 3 on 2 goal to show the team how it's done. The Hawks seemed to fall asleep on the game winner. Nazarian should have been pinched off the puck before he even got into the zone.

Talk about a lost weekend. Four league games to go, 2 with BU & BC. The Hawks never make it easy.

Chapie was given a game misconduct penalty at the end of the game. That's his second and he'll miss a game if he takes another one this season.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

UMLGoon tweeted this out after the game, and he's absolutely right:

lowell loses to UNH despite 44-16 SOG. takes 4 pts of a possible 12 from uconn, unh, and merrimack. that's why they'll miss the tournament.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I had to laugh at some of the posts over on the UNH thread.

UML took cheap shots against the UNH players the entire game, which the refs pretty much let go. Just like last night at Conte?
I'm not sure I watched the same game. I guess I missed all the cheap shots.

Umile needs to file a protest with the HEA; the refs tonight were horrendous, and about as one-sided as I have ever seen in a college hockey game. Simply shameful.

They may have missed a couple of things but come on. I didn't think the officiating was that bad.

Lowell took the Poturalski harassment to another level tonight, taking shot after shot at him in the face-off circle. There was one instance where Poturalski skated to the dot and then took three consecutive crosschecks from a River Hawk before the Lowell player was thrown out of the circle. Another sequence saw a UML center cross check Poturalski and get thrown out of the face-off, only for the winger to come to the dot and immediately knock Poturalski to the ice...

It's hard to believe the officials let the shocking brutal assault of Poturalski in the face-off circle.go. Maybe the kid should be wearing a "No Contact" jersey.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I'll take that effort every night. Lowell outshot UNH 45-16 and dominated possession. You're going to win most of those games. Tonight UNH buried their chances and Lowell had zero puck luck. There were 4-5 times I was sure the puck was going in only to be left befuddled at how it stayed out.

Surprisingly, the loss didn't hurt them in the PWR. Most of the teams behind them are teams they can stay ahead of by pasting AIC and Amherst and going .500 or better against BU/BC.

Wow, what a salty thread this morning! I guess I can't blame you. If my team was battling for a regular season title and managed only one point against NU and the worst UNH team in decades, I would be salty too.

I simply made an observation. I never complained about refereeing or cheap shots. So, go watch the tape and tell me the cross checks at the face-off dot didn't happen. I'm certain Poturalski can handle it - as he continued to look like a man among boys when he had the puck on his stick - just as I'm certain this board was designed so we could discuss these things. Lowell, and every other team UNH plays, has realized that the Wildcats have two legitimate players. Like any well coached team would, they're challenging those players physically in hopes of taking them off their game and forcing someone else to beat them. No one else on UNH can - except for last night when you guys really blew it!

Oh well, easy schedule the rest of the way for you guys, so I'm sure you'll get back on track. As a UNH fan, I get it - choking sucks!

I didn't say it didn't happen. I just didn't think it was a big deal. If it was the officials would have made a call. You see the same type of contact on most faceoffs during a game.

As I said, I just thought it was funny seeing the complaints about the cheap shots and officiating this morning. I guess putting the body on a teams top player is considered a cheap shot by some. I didn't see any head hunting by Lowell last night. Maybe i missed it?

No doubt a tough weekend for Lowell but that's the way it goes. I gave UNH credit for taking advantage of a few Lowell mistakes and the win. I can't complain about the way the Hawks played. They out played the Wildcats for much of the night but it wasn't enough. It's hockey, it happens.

To be fair, UNHers were complaining about the rough shake their players get from the awful EVERYBODY and how the refs won't protect them BEFORE they played us. As if the refs won't protect them from those awful EVERYBODY monsters. Apparently they're low on kings horses and kings men at Cow Hampshire.

For the record, if boblav is calling you out...

I hear ya and thanks for the upbeat post but still a disappointing weekend, especially last night with all those shots and a lot of UML players seemingly in a fog for much of the game with indecisiveness, lazy play, etc. Hopefully they can work out the kinks for next weekend.

On another note, a blast from the past and one of the more obnoxious and annoying fans, the UNH seal lady somehow found herself seated near us in Section 107. Still in all her glory and had Lowell been winning and/or if other certain UML fans hadn't been absent, she probably would've heard more than just the few seal calls being sent her way during the game.

Fair enough, there were some. But, in their defense Poturalski and Kelleher and their combined scoring is all we have.

I love Boblav - but he's gotten on my nerves lately, posting in the UNH recruiting thread. Often he alerts me to commitments! But lately he's just been a big tease. He shows up and NO commitments! I go back and forth between blaming him and the UNH coaching staff...
