UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Since the current NCAA format was instituted, Lowell is undefeated (5-0) in opening round games. Let's hope this trend continues Saturday night!

And Yale, RIT, and Quinnipiac are all running student/fan buses but not Lowell. Still disappointed in the lack of publicity and effort on the part of Lowell to only offer up a bus for 6 hours yesterday and pull the plug prematurely. Not good.

Just looked at the Ticketmaster map and it looks like Yale, Lowell and QU have sold relatively the same amount of seats with about 100-150 of the 650 seat blocks unfilled in those sections, Both RIT sections are completely sold out.

The Ice Is Life's Two Minutes Hate is up and their target is of course Yale in a sequel to 2013's pre-Frozen Four "Who Was Nursing You."

This is f'in fantastic.
And Yale University will be piling their gear onto a dilapidated motor coach for their drive back to the calming state of mediocrity. They’ll have a lot waiting for them when they return to New Haven. Weekend brunches and squash matches. Rubber stamped grades in their comparative religion class and a cushy job waiting in the financial sector. But they’ll be without two things that money can’t buy: dignity and victory.

Well, the guys better win. If not that is a lot of crow to eat.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

A key ingredient to any championship team is that they must have faced and worked their way through some form of adversity through the season. Northeastern is a prime example of this in winning Hockey East. In cases where good teams haven't experienced adversity, coaches will create this on their own for a period of time. If we look at 2 of the top 4 seeds in Boston College and North Dakota, both went relatively unchallenged during the regular season but didn;t win their respective leagues. it will be interesting to see how they respond to this. In Lowell's case, there has been enough adversity to prove that the team is resilient. The challenge for this team is consistency. Championship teams are able to bring consistency to most parts of their game on a game in and game out basis. This has been a struggle for Lowell all year in playing consistent hockey for 60 minutes each game and also in back to back games. There are no more second chances so we will see if this team has the make-up to be a championship team.

RHawkobserver, have you seen Yale play this year? Do you have any thoughts on how the Riverhawks will match up?

Hockey East Champion done. Not real surprising as NU run had to end some time soon. NU was never in this game and you saw a North Dakota team that was dominant. Played a very pro style game. Brought physicality and a forecheck that is not seen in Hockey East. North Dakota has high end skilled players that manage the puck so well. You saw puck protection and quick puck movement, low to high and high to low, and the defence being activated at every opportunity. Really exposed NU defensive coverage and their goaltender was not at his best today. NU strength all year was creating speed and offence off the rush but today had trouble transitioning and didn't have the puck long enough to gather any speed or mount any attack through the NZ and into the offensive zone. Hats off the NU for a good season. North Dakota proved today that they are a team that has to be favoured moving forward.

I'm out for this weekend... too much work plus complicating factors :(

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

A tough night so far for Hockey East. Currently 0 for 3 with BC still to play.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Hey, the group I'm going with is 5 just by ourselves!

Oh good, getting nervous that with no student buses and the holiday weekend that Lowell will be under represented, not up to our usual attendance standards.

Me + 2 will be there! Staying at Best Western Sovereign and planning to go to Pearl Street then catch 3rd period of Q-RIT. Buying tix at box office.

Watching BC Harvard game. Man, these commentators are every bit as bad as they were predicted to be. Barry Melrose started off by talking about BC having good drafting and then corrected himself but proceeded to fixate on all the draft picks. BC is obviously going to win as all we have heard about is how amazing they are, because of their draft pics, rinse, lather, repeat. Ick. Turning them off.

I'm sitting watching with my roomate from South Dakota, and he hears Buccigross just yelling "Did it go it, Did it go in, Did it go in," had to explain Bucci is just a character, and as annoying as he can be he does a lot of good for the college game

So bad they are embarrassing.

Barry Melrose is an idiot.

Barry Melrose is an idiot.

Buccigross is very supportive and enthusiastic about the college game, play-by-play aside.

Melrose on the other hand is a moron and is the yearly focus of complaints on the boards. Has he talked about the college teams being "franchises" yet? His NHL brain always seems to be switched "on" and sometimes you can catch him saying "This BC franchise..." for example or something that effect.

Going back to Bridgeport regional in 2012, he was constantly dissing Lowell, saying they had no business being in the tournament, etc. Lowell fans were chanting his name and the boob thought it was because they liked him.

So when some complain about NESN's Tom Caron and some of his tendencies, you could always be stuck with Barry Melrose.

Dump Melrose and make Jaffe the number 1 college guy for ESPN.
