UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Non Hockey-East note ... SCSU is playing at CC tonight. They took a 5-minute major and CC scored a goal 1:07 into the power play. After that, SCSU scored three short-handed goals in less than 3 minutes. I don't remember the last time seeing/hearing something like that. 3 shorties during one kill (albeit 5 minute).

A tape delay of that game will be on NESN+ later tonight. I might have to check that out.

Did they let him on the bus last night after the BU game? lol

Was kind of hoping Amherst would continue stumbling and bumbling and keep him around another year. Now we have to worry about them actually bringing in someone with ability. Cam Ellsworth?

I think it has much to do with Marty as anything else... if he involves himself they'll try to find somebody quality... if not, they'll go through the usual run of pathetic. I am hoping he takes a hands off approach.

It's been a busy morning in Amherst. They also fired their Women's Basketball coach Sharon Dawley. Dawley and Micheletto each had a year left on their contracts.

According to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Micheletto was set to make $210,000 next season while Dawley had a base salary of $237,000. Both will be paid in full, per the report.

a) why would this be considered a promotion? Amherst's hockey program has always been second rate.
b) Their hockey tradition is a few yrs behind and their hockey culture- blech. why would Normy want to go there? Maybe b) is more of a)

I think even with Marty it still comes down to the athletics department's commitment to the program. They are sport 3 at UMass, and it will take a lot for them to change that. Marty being involved in the hiring is one thing, but I feel like he would also have to take a day to day interest in it as well. And as a new alum I feel like there are bigger issues for him to focus on as President. UMass' Chancellor and the admin at Amherst need to buy in, not simply have Marty say athletics is important

The firing of both Dawley and Micheletto mark the first major coaching changes made by AD Ryan Bamford, who was hired last year.
