UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Any updates on Hough and Campbell for next weekend? Are they done for the season?

Haven't heard a word on Hough but a couple weeks back heard Campbell was done for season. But who knows with Norm Belichick.

Let's hope for a loud and full Tsongas. Hopefully some of the students stick around, spring break begins a week from tomorrow.

If I know UML, they'll be flooding the region with discount coupons and other deals. Two that I know of for example are $16 dollar alumni tickets for each night, up to four for each game I believe including a pregame reception in the Talon Club each night (link here). You have to order by March 10 but if you're an alum and have friends who want to go, save $5 a ticket and go this route.

The other is a student deal. In addition to UML students being free, if they bring a friend who is a student at another college and shows their college ID, they're free too.

There's also a free souvenir cup giveaway to the first 3,000 fans on Friday night.

One has to assume that if Lowell makes it to the Garden, they're a lock for the NCAAs, right?

I would think so. I believe this weekend's results were favorable for Lowell as their RPI went up. There may be some wild bad luck scenarios that would still keep them out even after advancing to the semi finals but they aren't likely to happen.

Nothing is a total lock unless they reach 10th in the Pairwise, but if they beat BU they're likely moving up to at least 11th. Considering the RPI lead Harvard has on Lowell is only .0002, Lowell might gain a spot there especially if Harvard slips up against RPI, and could conceivably hit 9th by the end of the weekend if Northeastern beats Notre Dame. Lowell almost assuredly passes Harvard if both teams win because Lowell will get an RPI boost from beating BU and Harvard won't for beating RPI.

If Lowell gets swept this weekend and the next few bubble teams immediately below them all sweep, I don't think Lowell's falling lower than 14th. Considering that there's two conferences (AHA/WCHA) that have no teams in the top 16 and therefore their conference champions will be taking two spots, that would make Lowell the last team in going into conference championship weekend. That would be a pretty precarious position considering that a team that could be able overtake Lowell would still be playing and the Hawks would be watching at home.

14th would be scary. Michigan was swept by Ohio State this weekend. I'd say its highly likely a 3rd auto bid comes from the Big 10. Another team to keep an eye on is UMD. Their recent success has probably helped Lowell given there is a bonus for a road win against a quality team, however we're in another situation this year where a team with a .500 record from the NCHC may take one of the last remaining spots.

Wow. I'd like to think that for this game, this much effort wouldn't be needed to fill the place.

The alumni have this deal for certain games, think they did last year for the home series too. I like the student one as with break, there's no way that corner looks like it did vs BC, so do anything you can. I've got a certain student coming Saturday who's on break this week.

Anything to help bring people in. The attendance for the first round games was ... abysmal (to put it mildly).

MC: 2,188, 2,210 and 2,589 (Game 3 was a sellout)
UConn: 4,045 and 4,572
NU: 1,190 and 1,391 (for a team that's played great hockey the second half, this is pathetic)
BU: 1,752 and 1,917

quarterfinals have always been an issue for all teams

Northeastern's break isn't until 3/21 so that's pretty bad considering students are on campus and how well they've been playing. Plus Friday night was Coach Madigan Bobblehead Night so most likely there were more bobbleheads in attendance than humans.

BU's break actually began Friday night so that would have something to do with their attendance being down.

In addition to the alumni student friend deal noted earlier, here's another that just showed up in my inbox. 20% off tickets this weekend by entering "cyber" promotional code. Head here.

This in addition to the games not being part of the season ticket package as they historically have been. Season ticket holders had to go onto their online account, buy the tickets, and print them out as opposed to paying for them in August and having it on the same sheet as the rest of the season.

Which some people here complained about when they did it that way. I hope they go back to it.

So Friday's game is at 7:30? That will help with the commute up there. Which is relatively easy but always a pain on a Friday night.
