UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

We're more annoyed at Hockey East's review process which rarely favors the Friars. PC could have ended that game earlier. OT games are fun.

lil always says it isn't a real game until they review a goal.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

I truly hope you'll be there tomorrow, never, ever take any of this for granted as we went years before this stretch. We thought the mid 1990s would last and it didn't, took many years to get back to the NCAAs, let alone the occasional Garden appearance. You never know when the next one will come.

One man's opinion but I feel completely different about the state of the program now. In the mid 90's I never felt that that success would be sustainable. Each of one those successful years I felt "enjoy the moment because this won't happen often". The school and community never really had the program's back (re: the way the university treated Bruce Crowder's contract, etc.) in those days.

But now I have a completely different level of confidence in this program. I think it will be part of the conversation for quite a while. May not get to the NCAAs or even The Garden every year, but will always be in the mix. Outlier years will always exist but instead of the outlying years be an occasional rise to the top, it will be an occasional crap year that will be the anomaly.

Kind of how I feel. Not sure what you mean about Crowder's contract. The way and how he left was something I have not much respect for.

lil is correct.
I know it's not just PC this happens to, but this keeps happening over and over again. Last week, they reviewed a hit to see if it was a 2 or 5 minute major. I guess they can do that too.

Perhaps other old-timers will comment or correct but the way I remember things was that the athletic administration at Lowell had worked out a deal to make Crowder an integral part of Lowell's future. As one member of the hockey advisory committee told me at the time, "We're going to make Bruce Crowder Lowell's version of Len Ceglarski" (or something pretty close to that). For you young'ins, Ceglarski coached at BC for 20 years......

But in order for the contact to be finalized, it had to be approved by President Hogan. Who never gave a rats' *** about athletics at the school. So the contract ended up sitting on his desk with no movement. ****ing a lot of people off. When it became clear that the approval might not come, Crowder left for NU.

Ok... My gripes...

Chapie needs to lose that letter... It's been awhile in coming but JFC he takes some really stupid penalties.

The lingering doubt will be but for the need of triple overtime

Playoff officiating... We will see a much less lenient standard next week... NU took full advantage with tackles and pins. I really wish on the overall that man down pins would be called more often. To me it's against the spirit of play and should be treated as a hold, full stop

Edit: otherwise it was a good effort... I don't think NU is a juggernaut but they know what they want to be

Officially locked into 8th in the Pairwise. If we somehow end up playing a 2 seed the Lowell Sun can have a conniption and at least it'll be legit

Playing Yale in Albany seems most likely... we'll have to see how this plays out. I think Yale is our opponent regardless.

I don't remember it that way but I may be mistaken.

Tonight made me appreciate last night's clean, hard hockey. All sorts of grabbing, a few boardings, etc. At least they knew what off sides were and didn't get in the way all night.

Was worried tonight would be a fiasco after last nights 3OT. It wasn't.

Disagree with the Chapie thing. Live the infractions seemed fairly equal. The last one was a ligit penalty. The fact they didn't call the guy for killing right before may have made him feel like his retaliation would be OK. From the look on his face as it happened didn't seem as tho it turned out as he intended.

For the fermentosexual amongst us... if we lose first day in Albany I'll probably hit Ommegang... besides that... Schmaltz has a taproom north of Albany.. outside of that I'm still doing my research... looks like more "miss" than hit. Especially, knowing that we'll have to go to the games as well. :)

edit: if anybody can get me some navigation beer let me know... I'm willing to pay back/trade.

Feel free to eat Chapie's lunch on the high stick to the face, he deserves to be criticized for that stupid play. The slash, on the other hand, is a different story. Chapie was absolutely drilled by a cross check from behind into the boards, right in front of the official, and it wasn't called. If the official is doing his job Lowell goes on the PP and the retaliation penalty never happens. It was one of the most egregious non-calls I've seen in a long while.

Special teams failed Lowell, and that was the difference in the game. Credit the NU PP for cashing in on their chances.

On to Albany (probably)

Chapie had every right to be ****ed off in both situations. I don't see either as excusable in the sense that he got popped for both retaliations.

The second one was right in front of us. You could see that he didn't mean for that to happen the way it did as it was happening.

Is anyone heading over to the Sports Zone this morning for the selection show?

As a reminder, we will be hosting a NCAA Selection Show watch party at the Sports Zone in Dracut. The event will begin at 11a.m. and there will be free appetizers on hand for fans!

Quick Yale scouting report.
1. Lyon is real deal and there is s good reason why he is a HB top 10. That being said he didn't have best games vs Dartmouth (a series we lost 2-0).
2. Yale D is their strength led by O'Gara a Bruins top pick.
3. Our offense can struggle putting puck in net, but our top line had picked it up led by Hayden and the freshman of year in ECAC Joe Snivley.
4. This team is very difficult to figure out- on most days they have looked like a top team in country and I think as fans we have high expectations. However we got swept by Dartmouth and also lost at home to Princeton (one of worst teams in country) earlier this year.

Swing on over to our thread and let us know a little about you guys. And (edited) see you in Albany (?or Worcester).

Thanks for the info.

However Lowell unfortunately did not win the championship, upset by Northeastern last night. But they hadn't won in 28 years so it's ok, we've been there the last four years, winning 2 out of 4, so we'll be ok.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread II

Wow! What a great weekend of hockey. Very proud as a fan to support our team! Making it to the Hockey East Championship game was beyond my expectations. Our boys showed guts, determination, and played great team hockey. Kudos to them and to the coaches. Of course I would have loved to see them beat NU last night. When NU got the 1st quick goal, I was wondering if this may end up being a blowout as our team was probably exhausted from the night before. But that was not the case - they kept battling and battling. I will say it again - I am very proud of this team!

and won next to nothing with NHL stars up and down the roster, especially in the 80's. No one did less with more than Len Ceglarski
