Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Has anybody else noticed how it seems like every shot Tyler Mueller attempts gets blocked before it ever makes it to the net? Wallin's goal tonight came off of a Mueller shot, but other than that it seems like the kid leads the team in shot attempts but they never make it to the net.

Boyle is a rebound machine and just terrible. Smith did not too look much better when he got in but he came into a tough position.
Who gets the start tomorrow night?

It won't matter, sparty sucks. They have a decent D but no offense to be found.

Good: The offense continues to click. 4 more tonight and they could have had even more than that.

Bad: Virtually everything else. Killed on faceoffs, way too many turnovers in their own end, way too many shots directly into defenders shins, couldn't get the puck out of their own end a lot, didn't get the goaltending they needed to stay in the game, penalty kill failed again.

Put it in the past and move on to Michigan State.

Game recap from the Sun: Flat River Hawks get flattened.

"I didn't take Kevin Boyle out because he was poor," Bazin explained. "I took him out because I wasn't going to let him get hung out to dry. This was a team loss. We'll make adjustments and hopefully, come back better tomorrow (versus Michigan State)."

Yeah, this. I don't have much good to say.

BTW, for how impressively they recruit, the Michigan goalie was garbage last night. Of course, ours were worse.

Things got pretty ugly in the defensive zone last night. Hopefully they can turn it around tonight and salvage the weekend split. Interesting that MSU only allowed 1 goal against BU last night.

Based on Norm's comments in the Sun I would imagine Boyle will get the start tonight.

Completely disagree. Put Smith or the Finn out there and see what you have in them. If not, why the hell did we bring Smith in early? Boyle is not a starting caliber HE goalie, and we knew that when we pick him up. If Boylr is genuinely the best option at goalie, Lowell will be lucky to finish 8th in conference.

Regardless of who is in net, if the defense doesn't make it out of the locker room again it won't matter.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

What was interesting to me comparing this season to last, is that after the second (Lowell) goal the team did not go back to celebrate with Boyle. I remember talking about this a while ago, but in Conner's first year it just seemed like the team wanted to play well in front of him. I know body language of the team when it looks like the game might be getting out of hand is hard to judge, but I would really like to see Smith in net tonight.

I'm all for seeing what Smith and Kärpät can do.

Dear Norm,
Your fan base doesn't trust your judgement on what you see every day in practice. Forget about putting the guy out there that YOU think gives your team the best chance to win. Play the other goalies dammit. :p

Amazing to me that Bazin is about the best thing to happen to UML hockey in many years and fans constantly question his recruiting style, personnel decisions, his hair style, wardrobe selection, etc. :D Run the bum out of town on a rail... he's not playing to win!!!

Kid is sick so won't be making the game tonight. Any tricks for watching online, short of paying?
If anyone is in the greater Arlington area and would like 2 great seats, they're for pick up...an hour before, there's an offer!
