Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

I'll have them at Beer Works on Friday night.

See you there, thanks!

This is going to be a great weekend, both nights are going to be packed. Little to no chatter on line from Michigan fans from both schools though which is too bad. Be interesting to see what they bring for fanbases.

I wonder if we'll see Smith or Kalkaja in one of the games this weekend. Four straight league games after this weekend (UNH, NU).

I think I'd let Boyle ride until he blows it or we get to Penn State whichever comes first. Just dawned on me what a grueling stretch they started- 12 games in 35 days including a trip to Notre Dame.

There should be some phony local Michigan football fans in attendance Friday night similar to the fraudulent Notre Dame fans that were at those games last year. Remember that one clueless guy last year?

Today's Lowell Sun article: Heavyweights come to town

That article was awful.

How about not sounding like an awe struck fanboy because Michigan/MSU are coming to town. Sparty just lost to Amherst for crying out loud. Meanwhile the author makes it sound like top ten ranked Lowell should be genuflecting when Michigan steps off the bus.

Can't wait for the day when the entities surrounding this team catch up to the on ice performance and drop the "happy to be here" schtick.

Honestly, I didn't mind it. There's definitely some buzz amongst the regulars that I know to finally have Michigan and MSU coming out here for the first time ever. To me, it's a sign of a program growing up when schools like that come here to play.

I think one can convey excitement about the first time visit without burying Lowell like a bunch of rubes just happy to be there. The angle should be two ranked teams meeting in the HE/B10 challenge. Titling the article "Heavyweights Come to Town" ignores Lowell's position as a top ten team (and also inflates MSU, who lost to Amherst).

If this was a national writer I could understand it, but this is a writer for the Sun, someone I assume as at least seen a Lowell hockey game over the couple of years.

Most sports writers exist to seek validation anyways. I mean, we could bring in North Dakota for two but I doubt that the excitement would be that high. Yes, some people will always be in awe of the big boys. This is not worth getting worked up about.

To this guy he probably thinks its a big freaking deal.

To most of our fans beyond the committed its a big freaking deal. Me, I want four points and expect a win Saturday and expect to win tonight (w a bit of nuance here... I think all 4 points is reasonable this weekend).

When I talk to others about college sports in New England I start with "most everybody went somewhere else". Guess what, it still applies even if we are talking about ourselves.
