Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

The Wallin hit and the on Mueller at :53 I would guess.

The Mueller hit followed a ten second period where Mueller was sitting on top of the QU player. I believe they got matching minors.

Watched the entire game on the QU stream, interesting they didn't show the first Lowell goal, I would have guessed that was what Pecknold was so angry about after the game.

Ah. To clarify, I just meant that the way that Wallin hit, that could have been a lot worse for Lowell (injury wise).

He took 3 or 4 of those type hits in the game (two were shown in the highlight reel). It was interesting hearing the QU broadcasters try and justify the one that resulted in the minor by saying there was a lot of it going on behind the net already. Not a great excuse.

Yeah, from what I've gathered he wanted an interference call on Francis for contact behind the net. It was a good non call, Francis has the same right to that ice as the goalie.

Some homer-ific announcing from the Q. The whole game replay is available for free: http://quinnipiac.prestosports.com/sports/mice/2014-15/mice_vs_umass_lowell

i remember when they lost 35-10 in the ncaa baseball tournament to Miami OH. They posted the archive online. Oh the homerism and self-congratulations was hilarious juxtaposed against the score... **** shame the archive gave out around the 6th inning.

edit: this has been a personal desire of mine, though not a strong one... I wish we could set up the "unfair" benches that some of the schools have set up where the penalty box is on the same side as the home bench. Its not kind but arenas have opened since Tsongas opened with this configuration.

I thought the hit on Suter by Peca deserved a penalty. At 1:43:30 of the video.

Video
Check out just after the opening faceoff, at the 0:06 mark. How many minutes did the guy in the blue jersey deserve for his cheap elbow shot to the head? 5:00 and game? I didn't see anything from the gold jersey's any worse than that.

Your team is playing hockey, and they gonna dish some chit out they're gonna get some chit back. Works both ways. Your team knows that... you guys really oughta grow a set. It's hockey.

I was at the game and based on some of the stuff that the refs called I figured the hit on Suter was a no brainer. It even looked like Peca expected to be called.

Didn't notice the hit on St Denis live but based on the replay it should have been called. It may explain why he left the game early. Hopefully he's ok.

Thanks for asking, I have a set.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

There is a big difference in calls between HE refs and ECAC ones. HE are a little more picky than ECAC, although Whittemore who was a ref Saturday is an AHL ref who Rand does not like. It's hard to justify not calling the first Lowell goal. He was clearly hit and it resulted in a goal. Whittemore then proceeded to make two make up calls that were complete BS against Lowell and Q scored so the effect on the game was nullified.

Thought you guys were very strong and brought to light many things Q needs to work on. It was nice to get up to Tsongas for the first time as well. Good luck in HE. Maybe we'll see you later ;)

On to other things ... 14 goals scored in 3 games. 9 different goal scorers and 15 players have points, which is **** impressive to me, especially in just 3 games.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

The UConn goaltender almost stole a game from Merrimack the other night.

I prefer we take nobody lightly and we'll end up on top. People forget that the game is still hockey and the talent pool is tighter each year. I mean, even D-III you don't see the 16-0 whomping anymore.
