UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I firmly believe Providence laid the blueprint for how to stop this Lowell team from the playoffs last year.

While at first glance, you would think its PC... I truely believe the blueprint was started by Maine. If you go back to Feb last year, Maine shut down that high powered offense. I remember that game in particular because I remember thinking, "how did this team play this poor, after playing so well in Orono months prior". And if you remember, it was a pretty dull game - just like the PC games. They figured out our system, as I am sure we were not taken seriously in the first matchups. From that game, we were exposed amnd truly believe it set the blueprint for many teams in Hockey East. Since that point (including HE playoffs and National tourney) to current record, Lowell is 9-13-2. Blah.
My opinion, but always willing to hear others take.

Wait, you're giving Whitehead credit for coaching?

Maine heads exploding in 3, 2, 1....

lol - I know, but in all honesty that (IMHO),was the moment it was figured out. What do you think?

You could make that argument I suppose. Just remember, we swept PC the last weekend of the season as well, so it's not like things had gone completely to hell prior to the playoffs.

BTW, Lowell hasn't lost three in a row yet this year. So you know ... we've got that going for us.

I have to say this absolutely amuses me ... from the Harvard site:
I'm sure you can all figure out my amusement...
You can get to first served bases by a hit, a walk or an error.

Harvard, the Hawks Monday night opponent is at Merrimack tomorrow night. The game is being televised on WBIN and will also air on FCS Atlantic and DirecTV channel 623 @ 7:30 pm.

NU's lost a couple of their big-name recruits recently, and now lost sophomore Joe Manno, who's gone back to the USHL. He had originally committed to UMass for a while, then switched to NU.

The interesting part might be...
In Dubuque, Manno will play alongside three Northeastern recruits, Michael Szmatula, Matt Benning and John Stevens.

The interesting part might be...
Manno had 5 points (2-3-5) on the season and had dressed for every game.
“After discussions with Joe, it became apparent he was not content with his role on the team and he decided to pursue other options,” Northeastern coach Jim Madigan said in a statement. “We wish him well on his future.”

According to Mike McMahon of the Mack Report: Red Sox planning another Frozen Fenway.

From the Mack Report site. Here's an interview with Merrimack's radio analyst Mike Machnik and HE commissioner Joe Bertagna. The subject of the Fenway games comes up about half way through. According to Joe there's a good chance it will happen. He also mentioned the league has made it clear that teams that have yet to participate need to be involved. It sounds like it would be similar to last season where they would have a main event and then have another league game there several days later.

1-0 good guys after two....can the boys close escrow and earn the two points they imperatively need to keep the final home ice spot in reach.

A win is a win....no matter how ugly it was, especially the 1st period.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

As dull as that game was, I had a good time at Tsongas. I hadn't been there for a couple seasons and I thought the whole game presentation on the Jumbotron was much improved, especially with the player introductions. Didn't the Jumbotron not be able to play video or am I making that up? I thought the crowd and atmosphere was pretty solid as well. It seems like the school has done a good job marketing the team to the city. Whenever I come to Tsongas I always like that you can tell how long someone has been a fan based on what Riverhawk/Chief jersey they're wearing. Same thing at NU, since we change our jerseys so much.
