Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Just watched the highlights from Hockey East's website.

Defensively, this team is a mess.

Offensively, this team's scoring ineptitude isn't funny anymore. It's like me trying to score a chicken sandwich at Chik-Fil-A on a Sunday.

I firmly believe Providence laid the blueprint for how to stop this Lowell team from the playoffs last year.

Anyone know the extent of the injury to Riley Wetmore? Heard a few guys talking that he had separated his shoulder but just wanted to know if anyone had heard anything...

It is a separated shoulder. He wants to play, coach wants him to rest/heal first.

Right after the UVM game, I had posted elsewhere "This is why expectations suck."

Yep, that's pretty much all I have to say at this point.

Talent wise UNH and UML are not in the same zip code. Especially liked the "UML gooning" as the 3rd period went along. Billy Riley would have been proud.

I felt bad for Carr last night. He didn't get much help. I'm not sure you can fault him for any of the goals.

Agree, they had their chances, just can't finish. On the positive side they played much better than the first meeting and they did generated plenty of scoring chances.

It's about time for the coaching staff to figure something out.

Where are the Riverhawk faithful? You haven't given up on the season? Just thought I'd try and get this thread back on page 1.

Not given up but doing the same thing over and expecting different results is crazy . Carr has now gone 0-3 against unh and was pulled from the game before so why not use our other goalies no we get another 5-2 lost. Great job. Not like we have a goalie who has been drafted to NHL. Oh yea we do

If the puck goes in he is part of the blame Carr is not the player we thought time to try the other 2 goalies he has had his time and we are in the basement

What's the deal with Suter? With his hockey lineage you would think he should be better than he is. He is awful, but still chirps like he is a somebody. Must be adopted.
I would not call him awful. I don't think he's ever going to put up a lot of points. I think for the most part he has played solid defense and has blocked a ton of shots since arriving at Lowell. He's one tough kid.

Tough like when he cross checked Block in the face after he scored a ppg to ice the game a couple of weeks ago? :p

I was taking about Suter blocking shots. If you want I'm sure we can go back and forth all week long about certain hits or plays by various players from both teams.

Trolls in our thread just seems weird. We didn't used to be worth it. Why now?

There's not a lot to say. You had it right, two different zip codes. UNH looked quicker, faster, more aggressive and stronger on the puck then Lowell did last night. The Wildcats looked very confident; I guess that comes when you’re on a 10-1-2 roll. Every area of their game is playing well. It will be interesting to see if they can keep it going. That lone HE coach who picked them to finish first is looking like a genius.

There's still a lot of hockey to be played. Right now it looks like its BC, UNH and BU and then everyone else. The Hawks just need to take care of business against the rest of the league. Hopefully the Hawks can take the next two and go into the break with some momentum.

This is a fair point...I can understand not liking the way things occurred and his disdain for that coaching staff, but it's almost been two years now. Everyone has moved on, so if it's just to revel in the misery of River Hawks fans, that's a pretty low place to be.

At this point, I don't see Lowell going much farther than the first round of the playoffs. Even that may be a stretch and some may argue we may have a time trying to make the playoffs. I'm not going that far but to say that the season can be salvaged from an NCAA point of view is a pipe dream. UNH manhandled Lowell last night and you knew the game was over as soon as UNH tied it at 1 and feel the entire building from the Lowell side just sag.

Lowell's lack of size, especially on the back end is absolutely haunting them even moreso this season. There were no answers by Lowell forwards against the biggest, stronger, and faster UNH defensemen. Coupled with their ability to handle the puck and make Carr look silly on three simple wrist shots that found the back of the net. I don't fault Carr on the third UNH goal; in fact, Lowell's inability to move that puck another six inches get the puck is out of the zone was a key piece of the goal. This only amplifies the point of the UNH defensemen being able to keep and move the puck at will.

So to answer the question at hand, a lot of the River Hawk faithful know a second consecutive NCAA appearance is highly unlikely this season. Given the expectation level and the media attention given to this team at the start of the year, the balloon has popped. As Bob expertly said, there is much to say when a balloon popped other than to say, "Uh-Oh"

Agree, a little momentum would be nice.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

People have figured out our offense. And our coaching staff hasn't changed it...

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I think the quick response to the UNH 2nd goal kept it going and brought the stadium back to life. However after the 3rd goal went in for UNH followed by UML penalties you could tell UML had zero chance to take it back in the 3rd.

You can probably come up with many things on what is going wrong, but at this point they just cant match up against top talent in the league. They are getting overrun against the top teams and playing down against the bottom teams.

Lowell needs to win next Saturday if they have any hope at seeing a full student section at any point in the second half.
