Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

So after having zero chance of getting to Pittsburgh, Saturday is looking 50/50 now if we get to the championship game. Will of course involve leaving at some ungodly hour on Saturday and driving 10 hours but this is better than it looked a few days ago. Monitoring Stubhub so we'll see what happens.

Tickets and hotel, check! Leaving Wednesday night after work with two others. It's all a lot of money, but it's worth it to finally see Lowell in a Frozen Four.

For baseball fans, the Pirates are playing Friday night. Cheap tickets, only $12!

Are you driving or flying? I have a 7PM flight out of Logan on Wednesday. Also going to the baseball game. Friends of mine that live in Pittsburgh are going to join us for the game so I get to see them while I'm there. :)

All of you going to the games are making me jealous! :p I was planning on going with an old UML friend and another friend of mine. Both have backed out. The big decision is whether I come down myself to Pitt. I would have to fly down Wed night because the Thursday airline prices are now prohibitive. The other factor is, heaven forbid, UML loses in the semi-final. Then what do I do for the remaining time in Pitt. I enjoy hockey and could easily watch the other games... but being solo is a not a lot of fun when watching neutral games. Arg! My head is telling me to stay home, be with the family, and save $. My heart is screaming... GO TO THE FRIGGIN' GAME!

Ok - thanks for letting me rant. I feel a little better.

I'm leaving at midday Wednesday to drive out there.

For the Pirates, they also have a ticket that is $42 and includes unlimited concessions (except beer of course) as part of the ticket price. They even have their down dedicated express stands so you don't have to wait in line.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

I hate baseball, but I think I'd be interested in going to a game.

Got my ticket confirmation today for the Frozen Four! :)

Worth it to check out the park. PNC is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the US (and easy to get tickets since the Pirates are turrible, always!)

I am flying out Wednesday morning and gng solo myself. I always find some I know to hook up with. If you go Wednesday we could hook up. Go RIVERHAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We fly out Wednesday night as well. Does anyone know what section the UML ticket allotment was for? We'll be in Sect. 116.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

Very impressive that UML is doing this for their students. Smart move and will help the atmosphere at the arena.
EDIT: A follow up post stated they hand picked the students to be offered the deal. They should have been offered on a first come basis.
I don't have an issue with this at all; in fact, I think it's a brilliant move.

Anyone driving down with 2 empty seats in the car to drive back? Trying to look at creative options.

You can get dugout box seats for like $37... it's ridiculously cheap and I'm not a big baseball fan either, but might look into going... or maybe hitting up the casino and playing some poker.

From the Hockey East site: Quotes and Video from UMass Lowell's Frozen Four Press Conference on Wednesday, April 3.

According to Marty Meehan, more investment in the program coming. A practice rink will be built that will be connected to the Tsongas. (8 min mark)

A practice rink with about 500 bleacher seats (youth hockey, intramurals, etc.) was in the original design for the building, it was to the front where the lobby is and lobby was congfigured all differently obviously. The problem was there was a budget amount set to build the facility and when bids came back, they found there wasn't enough money so this was one of the first things to go. But the ice plant was designed to support two ice surfaces as there had always been a plan to build a second ice sheet at some point down the road. The thought was in the past to put it on the lot adjacent to the arena as part of a development project and although separated by the side access road, it sure beats having to drive out to Tully when practice needs to be moved for event set up or other reason.

#3 on the playoff run and the defensive side of the puck:
"This playoff push has been pretty incredible so far. A lot of big games, the Hockey East Tournament was incredible and the fan base was unbelievable.

Hearing this a lot. One of the coolest things in Manchester was the spontaneous response of the players to the crowd at the end of the game. I can't remember who did it but I remember a player turning almost immediately to the fans and acknowledging them.

I'm pretty sure that was Colin Wright who did that.
