Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

congrats UML. well -deserved and good for HE and college hockey in general in this area

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Congrats to UML!!! Enjoy your first HE regular season championship, and I hope to see you playing against PC, UVM or MC in the Saturday night game in Boston. Beat Maine!

Well lucky for us there is one in the next week that could join it there.

Now can someone please tell me why we are not the favorite of the UMass system?

To the first... Two weeks.

----

To the second, because Mass doesn't really value hard work and value until you punch them in the mouth.

I thought Dana's comment a few weeks afo about every D-II athlete wanting to have been recruited by a D-I school to be very apt. We do our job, do it well, and are incredibly plucky. When we stop being a positive force I will end my involvement with UML, period.

What's Blaise up to right about now? ;)

I know there are probably many differences between the two, but the one that sticks out the most is that whenever UML had great expectations, the team faltered. This year, Bazin has delivered the goods. Kudos to him.

He was actually at the game tonight with one of his kids. And after Lowell won, he tweeted out a congrats to the team and fans. Juniors and seniors were his players.

I'm still trying to process this. It doesn't seem real.

I found this quote from Norm's introductory press conference:
"I think the long term potential for the program is the ability to compete for the three major championships," Bazin noted, referring to the Hockey East regular season, tournament and NCAA championships.

That's standard coach-speak, and a throwaway line that every coach says when they are introduced. I, like most of you, probably heard it, said "yeah, right", and never gave it a second thought. Until now. I'll never doubt anything Norm says again.

riverchief - After the game was long over, I was talking to a couple of the parents, and Bertagna walked by. One of the dads says to him "You better get your officiating fixed quickly."

A few thoughts on the playoffs:

Facing Maine in the 1st round - Yes, Maine won the season series. However, both losses were by 1 goal, and none of the 3 games featured Hellebuyck in net (as UMLWeatherman let every hockey writer know on Twitter). It won't be easy, but nothing ever is for this team. Besides, given how much Maine has tormented Lowell in the past, especially in the 1st round, I figure that we owe them.

Is it Thursday yet?

Ok, I was there tonight but I really don't understand what penalty SHOULDN'T have been called? The punch to the PC players face in view of a ref? I would say all the penalties that were called tonight were LEGIT penalties both ways. Was it too many? Yes but by the rule book they are penalties.

how about ones that should have been, or is it ok to punch our guys in the back of the head at mid-ice?

Just got home, and can't freakin' stop smiling... the Chiefs hold the HE regular season title.
He was actually at the game tonight with one of his kids. And after Lowell won, he tweeted out a congrats to the team and fans. Juniors and seniors were his players.
And some of the sophomores were his recruits as well. Blaise deserves a pat on the back for this, many of the players on the ice were guys that bought into the program because of him.

The punch should have been called. Of course, that was a retaliation, and the first part was missed. There were definitely a couple of really questionable calls.

Anyway, that's really irrelevant at this point.

Couple of things I take away from this:

*Love the response from the lackluster performance the previous night.
*Solid defense by the Hawks. Not too many easy shots for PC, Lowell essentially did to PC what PC had done to them.
*32 shots on goal for PC, while having 10 power plays. That tells you how well that defense did.
*The penalty kill was phenomenal tonight.
*Good pressure (at times) by Lowell, you got the feeling that PC didn't know what to do at times defensively, skating aimlessly in their own zone.

So very **** proud of all the Lowell fans that made the trip down. Easily over 200 Lowell fans (but not all in the same area), and there were a couple of points where because of how spread out we were ... when the UML chant started up, it went around the stadium. Was fantastic to hear the couple of Lowell chants that went around.

And most importantly, so proud of the players and the staff. It took them a bit to get their legs this year, but 18-3-1 over the last 22, just a complete jump in by the players to do what was needed to be done.

I have no idea where this season will go from now on, but at this point, I'm so GD proud of my alma mater. Well done Lowell ... well done.
