UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Hockey tomorrow. That is all.

It confuses me why hockey fans are so excited about this move. I'm a big college football, baseball fan and I like March madness but this could take away focus from the hockey team since they are currently only D1 team. It's not like you're going to see elite big-time D1 schools coming to play at Lowell now in other sports and UML doesn't even have footbsll do the?

Because it's actually good for the school. I'm a Lowell alum, I support the entire school and athletic department ... so this is a good thing. We haven't seen yet if this will negatively affect hockey.

And no ... no football.

It's all about belonging to the club... Our ad's remarks on this are spot on... To be seen as if you matter you need to be div 1. We become more of a destination than a happenstance.

Edit: I think this only helps hockey

Daughter bringing our golden retriever. Had fun bringing her last year and was excited about it again this year. Last year the golden teamed up with a friend's dog and won the "chow down" (a la the Vic's sub eating contest)...funny to see the dogs up on the big video screen during the contest.

I think the "chow down" is the best eating contest of the year. A better battle then having the college students do it.

Hellebuyck is indeed starting tonight.

My post was partly a tongue-in-cheek allusion to the day's announcement and a reminder that we do indeed face our very much disliked sister school this weekend.

A move to D1 is exciting for the school. Add this to all the other positive improvements on campus within the last 6 years since Meehan became chancellor and you have what amounts to a near revolutionary times for Lowell. The prior decades under Hogan were filled with stagnation and bottom line watching to the detriment of the students, faculty, and facilities on campus. With the raising of academics, increased relationships with other R&D schools and organizations, increased student pride, and increased visibility in the region and nation, this was a logical step.

That said, Bob Ellis is on the radio and the puck is about to drop.

Wilson gets the first.

2-0 Lowell on a Holmstrom goal.

Hellebuyck makes a mistake behind the net and gives up the goal to Amherst.

2-1 Lowell

I suppose one could ask the converse... does dropping to D2 help a D1 hockey program? And that doesn't even deserve an answer.

The reality is visibility, plain and simple.

4-3 Lowell with 12:50 to go. Penalties are killing Lowell. Amherst has 2 PP goals and a SHG. Lowell has taken the last 5 penalties.

Agree, they never make it easy. Riley Wetmore with two points (1-1-2) tonight to reach the 100 point mark for his career.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Two points and a tiebreaker is immense at this point. Keeps them squarely in the home ice conversation and some real breathing room from the #7 seed.
