UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Maine played well from the start, lots of chances in first. Interesting that once again the dam broke and Maine scored in bunches. I’ve heard of slewfooting but couldn’t see it from replay angle.I can’t listen to Mannix so sound was off : ) I imagine Lindauer will not get a chance to play for a game or two. 5 to 2 lead taking that guy down wasn’t that important. Live and learn. Breen and Scott had good games. D was much better.

2nd in HE, tie breaker with bc. Still 6 HE teams in tourney according to pwr, been awhile since we have seen that.

Not to mention possible concussion risks that can come from a play like that. Looked like Lindauer just outmuscled him and took him down, but on the replay you can see the skates get together.
 
Glad to see Sgt Joe Friday(Dragnet for us old timers) reporting from the box….helps to keep Mannix and Tuell from guessing so much on video reviews.
For the “youngins”, Jack Webb. LOL.
 
In the offseason when the Bentley transfers were announced I was really excited for Niemo and thought Scott was just a complementary player coming with him. Now Scott has emerged as a key piece to the puzzle and Niemo is on the 4th line or not even dressed. When researching the two players last summer there was a lot of footage/highlights/articles about Niemo and just one short zoom interview a website did with Scott and that was it.

Interesting how their outlooks have switched!

Kinda like Brezeale, I would think (and Leveille) i’m pretty sure both were completely unrecruited walk-ons and they both made big splashes
 
I refereed for quite a while. Slew footing was a point of emphasis. The danger is that the guy goes head first, backward into the ice…it is like a judo throw

there’s really no way to defend against it when a guy gets an elbow in the chest and a leg kick from behind (which is what happened last night).

i never called it, because it is a very rare, dirty play and I never saw it, even once.

in lindauer’s defense, he elbowed the guy up high and only slew footed him once lindauer, himself, was falling over backward. I do not think he meant to do it.

marchand does it when fighting for the puck, basically standing still, up against the boards, not while chasing a puck carrier in the neutral zone

Marchand is the dirtiest PoS in the league. He's lucky he hasn't been held to account on the ice after, what, 15 years of his antics?!? He's the second coming of Kenny Linseman, from back in my day. He's the living, breathing example of why enforcers should be present in each and every NHL line-up, even right now in this high-skill era.

Someday, BM is gonna target the wrong guy. One guy, one shift, one minute alone in the torture chamber with the someone like Tom Wilson or Pat Maroon, or someone of their caliber. It has been LONG overdue ...

Dont ever recall hearing this one called. Makes sense once I googled it.
This event occurred in front of us along the boards, couldnt see their feet it looked like they locked arms and pulled each other down didnt see it too well.
Is it me or arent the refs calling many hits to the head this year? Saw some this weekend and colgate.

I’ e never seen slew footing called in college hockey

and yeah, I think a lot of head contact is going uncalled (and frankly, that has benefitted Maine…one of our guys gets away with it game after game)

UCONN’s captain Shandor just got called for a kneeing major in the neutral zone at the Whitt. It was LOUD! And frankly I figured it had to be a slash to the shin pad/ankle because of how loud it was. He hit Conmey, likely UNH’s best offensive player and Conmey needed help to the bench.

Mike Shutte just called from 2002 and he told me to hold his beer. : )

Sam Duerr has been playing only on Bentley’s third D pair, so I think that Maine got the better part of that “trade.”

Didn't he(Duerr)have a younger brother that Maine was looking into recruiting ... kind of Lundin move...bring Mike in and at the same time hope his brother Matt would follow.

Yep his brother James committed to UMass last August. No idea if he was ever actually linked to Maine, but I'm sure if they went after one they'd try for the other as well.
