UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

I think Maine may be just outside but UNH should be in the top 20. For some reason the Pollsters seem to hate Maine but we will see.

Anyone else notice how light the crowds were at Quinnipiac? Seems low for a National Champ even if it's an OOC opponent

Their fans obviously thought the shelter at home crap the maniacs just went through recently was intended for them...lol

This early season stretch for Maine is ridiculous, outside Rensselaer. If Maine goes .500 including at Quinnipiac (2), at Merrimack (2), BC (2), at BU (2), UNH (1), UConn (1), they should be well positioned in the RPI.

Early days, but it's fun having a reason to pay attention to the national scene and where Maine stacks up again.

I'm eyeing this weekend at Merrimack closely. If they're gonna be an elite team, obviously they need to be able to beat anyone, but BC looks stacked this year, and BU has given them fits recently aside from one game. I'll be there certainly on Friday and hopefully Saturday as well, will be important for them to get points in the bank.

Wont be too surprised to see 0 for 6 out of this next stretch, disappointed, yes. They are getting better but have a ways to go and have some player gaps to fill in the years ahead.
If they stay off their heals, play aggressive after the puck, finish checks, stay out of the box and get good goal tending they will be in each game.
Its all good anyway, nice to see progression and speedy skating instead of that dump and chase play we had to watch.

0 for 6? Seems pretty harsh to me. I cant see a bunch of gamers, which I think these guys are, accepting those kind of results. Over the next 8 games I can see at least 3 wins, maybe as many as 5.

This Merrimack series has the potential to be a lot of fun. Both teams are hard nosed and fast, interested to see if Maine can match the Warriors physicality.

I think BC has the potential to be a good weekend for Maine. BC hasn’t taken a true road trip yet and that’s a young team. Coming into a building like Alfond will be tough for them.

I could see the BU weekend posing a lot of problems. Realistic prediction is 2-3-1, split this weekend, split next weekend and a loss and a tie at BU.

O-6 won't happen...3-3 would be to me just ok...4-2 is more like it...this team is just getting use to each other in real game situations, not a practice and re-evaluate....the key still is Ostman staying solid game in and game out...playing physical but discipline...bumps in the road during the season will happen, but I have faith in this team to be a surprise team...not a picked 9th place team.

Not sure if anyone here follows the UMaine field hockey team but they did a great job in upsetting UNH
today in the America East qtrs, winning the right to play UAlbany tomorrow in a semi final. Totally shut down
UNH's offense which has been clicking all season.

Anyhoo, FWIW dept! Carry on...it's almost Friday!

Any time Maine wins...is a good thing...!!!

AND...the Womens soccer team won also...hosting Title game on Sunday @2pm...vs. UML....GOOD DAY FOR THE UM LADYS...!!!

Merrimack is playing 2 goalies, one of which is 6ft 8inches, holy crap not to much to shoot at when he is in goal. Any points this weekend will be good, going to be tough to come out of MC with any. The first line will be the key, remember 2/3 of that line are Freshman. Should be a hard fought series.

Merrimack has two solid netminders, to go with a tough brusing d-men, they do play at times over the top...so if Maine can get them to take penaltys it would bode well with(if)the power play can make them pay ...Maine asset could very well be their speed in the transition game.....look for a physical 2 game set...

Seems incredibly weird to me, for what, beating the Q one game on their ice? Certainly doesnt seem like a coupla wins over rpi would do much

And the win wasn’t even in regulation. It must be due to the games being on the road. I think objectively UNH and BC should be higher than Maine but most of their games have been at home.

Live from Lawler, in my opinion Maine was the better team but certainly not dominant, a lot of time in the MC end but the Warriors had surges where they got a few chances in quick succession.

Turned game on late, Maine didn’t appear to get many shots thru to the goalie.
