Ratings maybe? Anyone's guess why Denver is the earlier game and anyone who is in that area may only be able to see the first period before the end of the 12:00 lunch hour while the two teams in the regional with arguably the most fervent fanbases would be able to see the game if not there in person

All the 1 seeds get the early game. They don't want to be sitting around waiting for hours if the 2/3 games go into OT or several OTs.

I went to the Cornell/Quinnipiac game at Lynah in January. In my lowly opinion this is gonna be a tough matchup for Maine. Cornell did a really good job slowing QU down and seemed to disrupt QUs game, especially in the offensive zone. I don’t think Quinnipiac had their greatest showing (probably largely because of Cornell) and Cornell ended up winning in OT on a great snipe. We can’t get down or I see it being very tough to climb back in. Can’t make the Thursday game, but definitely will be there Saturday if Maine advances. Go Blue!!

Best wishes to PWR#5 Maine against PWR #12 Cornell this Thursday in Springfield.
I will be there, as I was in Orono on January 5-6 to see my beloved Colgate lose 3-1 and tie 4-4 in OT, respectively.

BTW, I also saw Cornell play live eight times this year (twice against Colgate; split) and most recently this weekend in Lake Placid. Those other opponents were Minnesota-Duluth (2x), Massachusetts, Arizona State, Dartmouth and Saint Lawrence.

There is no question in my mind that Cornell plays goon hockey now (and, apparently, in the past). Even more so than Arizona State. But, to their credit, they aren't in North Dakota's league (yet). And, after seeing both teams live this season, Maine can't hold a candle to Cornell in being goonies.

I never said Cornell didn't have talent, as evidenced by their win last night against PWR #40 Saint Lawrence. Having said that, I was glad to see SLU goalie Ben Kraws deservedly make the ECAC all-tournament team.

In total transparency, I love Colgate and Nebraska-Omaha and hate Michigan, North Dakota and Cornell. Why? Primarily because 'Gate and UNO don't play goon hockey (amongst other reasons).

As for Maine, I will be cheering for the Nadeau brothers and Ben Barr's entire team this coming weekend. The brothers are truly gifted. And their aunts are truly passionate fans. he he he

I believe if the Black Bears show their superior talent and aren't intimidated by the actions of the Red Bears, they'll meet Denver in the Regional finale.

P.S. - Colgate owns its 11-1 drubbing in Allentown last season by Michigan. Colgate also owns its winning record last season against national champion Quinnipiac; Colgate was the only team to beat them twice in 2022-23. Colgate also owns it record against Cornell the previous season... 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie.

Repeating the same BS over and over doesn't make it correct. Cornell was one of the least penalized teams in the nation this year. Their 9.0 penalty minutes per game has them tied for 14th lowest in the country. So either the refs are blind or you have no idea what you're talking about.

Narrator: he has no idea what he’s talking about

Well that didn’t take long for Thursday games to sell out directly through the mass mutual site. Glad I got mine. Will be there Thursday and Saturday. Goooo Blue!

It will be Maine vs Cornell. Hoping for a good matchup (and preferably a Maine win), best of luck to the Big Red.

Bite your tongue, if you please.

As Big Red said, this isn't the completely talent-deficient goon squad it once was, but it isn't a fun team to watch either, on the very little evidence I've witnessed.

(Yup, just two games.)

But Cornell is playing with house money. That doesn't hurt.

I'll be delighted with a Maine win, and I don't even want to think about Denver.

For all the goon comments about Cornell (whether warranted or not) we've come to expect teams taking cheap shots at the Nadeau's because it's been happening all season.

Hope they comes back a little stronger next year regardless but they learned some valuable lessons this year about how the college game is played.

Since their penalty numbers are low, it doesn’t seem like a goon squad. Seems like they have the country’s best defense. Maybe they hold/obstruct a lot and it frustrates opposing team and their fans? That defense makes them a tough squad to beat. They have 6 ties. And only 6 losses. So it seems like goals could be tough to come by. Having said this, not sure any of the alternatives were any easier. Maybe Maine can pop one in early and change their style of play.

How hard is it to understand that when the refs continually let the New York State School hockey team GET AWAY with gooning it up, they are not penalized and therefore they will not have lots of penalty minutes.

i personally do not hold the opinion that Cornell goons it up, I have only watched part of the MSG game. Iowa holds that opinion and I have not known him to exaggerate or tell tales.

and BEING at the game allows you to see the garbage that happens behind the play and away from the puck. Not that you would know, because you were not there, but Josh Nadeau must have been clobbered/cross checked/ wrestled to the ground or boarded away from the puck at least 30 times this season (perhaps as many as 60 times) without a single penalty called. In the final weekend alone, Scott Morrow gooned it up behind the play and after the whistle at least 8 times and was not called for a single penalty for what he did away from the puck

maybe Iowa and I watch more than the puck?

I wouldn't look past Cornell this is going to be a nasty matchup for us.

I'm on the record saying this team could go deep but I feel like that year might be next year but let's see how they do with the tournament pressure on them for the first time.

This post is an all-time act of mental gymnastics. So let me get this straight, the refs are biased in favor of schools from a particular *state*? And that state happens to be New York? Ergo, Cornell commits offenses that should be penalties, but aren't called? Well, that's interesting, because many of Cornell's opponents are from the state of, you guessed it, NEW YORK! Including Iowa's favorite team, Colgate. So the refs are biased in favor of New York, but apparently only Cornell benefits from it, not their conference travel partner 1.5 hours away.

Every step of logic here is ridiculous on its face. Iowa may be a great hockey fan, but he is biased against Cornell, who is Colgate's biggest rival (though not vice-versa).

If you *actually* wanted to know what Cornell is about, they have, as usual, one of the best defenses in the country. Their 1.9 GA/G is fewest in college hockey. They have achieved this despite half their defense being freshmen and playing 8-9 freshmen most nights. They are well coached and well disciplined.

Cornell is the underdog here. Maine had a better season. Cornell, like the other Ivies, cannot often accept transfers and cannot allow grad students to play, putting them at a disadvantage. But Cornell has lots of young talent, especially freshman forward Jonathan Castagna and freshman defenseman Ben Robertson. Cornell's goalie Ian Shane has been solid all year. Forwards Gabriel Seger and Dalton Bancroft combine size with skill to lead the team in scoring. If you actually watched them, you'd see no "gooning it up." All their games are available on ESPN+ if you'd like to confirm that for yourself.

StillKIA2, last night, a Saint Lawrence player went down. As the Cornell player went by, he proceeded to put his skate into him (when it certainly didn’t appear that he had to do so). Did the ref see it? Likely not. Was a penalty called? No. Nor was it just holding or grabbing or whatever.

All I am saying to Maine is… be prepared. I realize that this is a fan site, but still…

LOL! So a Cornell player intentionally "put his skate" into a player on the ice, the foreseeable consequence of which is to cause a grave injury? I can assure you neither the Cornell coaching staff nor players would ever stand for doing something like that. We get it, you hate Cornell. You can't let that corrupt your thinking so badly. Cornell has taken almost no major penalties this entire season, and yet you're on here accusing them of attempted battery. You need to quit with this drivel.

PS: 6 NCAA tournaments in the last 7 seasons for Cornell, not bad! How many for Colgate?

My son is a Colgate student and I do root for them when they’re not playing Cornell. It’s a shame IBT feels compelled to post such demonstrable nonsense.

Thought about staying for saturday game but just couldn't imagine what there is to do in springfield for two days between games.

I am debating getting a room in Auburn, and going to Providence on Friday. It is halfway between Springfield and Providence. So like a 30 minute drive on the highway from both Springfield and Providence.

They did get a learning lesson...especially after the 12-3-1 start...Josh was banged around from the get-go.. some legit...but many attempted head shots...teams figured Bradley out and blanketed him to no end..taking his blast from the top of the faceoff circle...Josh responded well and played his game...which was a 200' game....while at times Bradley faded out of the picture and became frustrated...when he moves around and back checks he is very dangerous...that's where he has changed down the stretch....but he does need to get stronger and he too has to evolve into a 200' game....both are talents and keys to Thursdays game and next season....and a change that at first looked as a shake up only was Renwick being put between the Nadeau's....that also made Breen on the other line a dangerous asset...both on the 5x5 and pk...bottom line the season goes on and the future is bright.
