UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

The way for Maine to go west is for the committee to go with serpentine brackets for the top two seeds if UMass doesn't make it.

The Providence bracket is set
BC vs 16
Wisconsin vs Qpac

Then the committee could decide to emphasize 2v7 3v6 4v5

That yields

2 Boston University vs 15
7 Minnesota vs 12 Western Michigan

3 Denver vs 14/13
6 Maine vs 11 Omaha

4 Michigan State vs 13/14
5 North Dakota vs 10 Michigan

Springfield would be left a barren wasteland and both Maine and Minnesota would be hosed, but the serpentine bracket (at least at the top) would be maintained. I think it unlikely but something to keep in mind.

Go Cornell! Go Pioneers!

I have 3 tickets in loge 14 row 6 but can’t go due to changed plans, if you want them.

If not and any one else wants them let me know.

I ditto comments about last nights effort, proud of the team and our great fans for filling the place. Took me back to my younger years and the program’s golden years. I’ve been a lurker on this forum to get me through the decade+ desert since then, grateful for the Barr era starting so my kids get a chance to see what Maine spirit is before they move into adulthood and carry the torch onward.

Sure let me know best way to contact you and send some money

Yesterday was a ton of fun, even if the result wasn’t ideal. I was running into people I hadn’t seen in a decade- since Maine was in the Garden and the regionals every year. For one year only, I’d say I was happy for the team just to be there.

The fanbase still dwarfs everyone else (except maybe UNH) in sheer numbers. Let’s make this a regular thing.

Are we locked into Springfield?

Nothing is official until they do the tournament placement broadcast show tomorrow.

My feeling is we are a virtual lock for either Providence or Springfield. But must wait to figure it out.

It is annoying and it made me buy tickets to both places.

No. This morning I spelled out a way for Maine to get sent to Sioux Falls.

Maine is locked in as a 2 seed. Maine will finish either #5 or #6 overall. I would estimate about 80% likely to go to Springfield, 15% to Sioux Falls, 4.99% to Missouri and .01% to somehow end up in Providence.

As soon as the brackets are announced you can put those Providence tickets on StubHub. The only way Maine ends up there now is if BC refuses to play on Easter and the NCAA agrees to stick the Eagles in Springfield. (In other words, it isn't going to happen)

Just watched the highlight package from last night's game that Hockey East put on YouTube. Really confirmed a lot of my thoughts from last night, Maine played well and had a lot of chances but just couldn't get them to go, while BU was (mostly) surgical on converting their chances. Caron looked even better in the highlights than I thought he did in person last night. And also, Houle was a monster, I didn't really realize until watching this how many great chances he had and was just stoned by Caron, had like 4 excellent chances to put one home.

ECAC at 5 with Hockey East to follow. Just like the old days of HockeyFest.

Cornell vs St Lawrence on ESPN+. Let's go Big Red!

Not a momentous beginning...

ETA: That's more like it. 1-0 good guys.

Cornell grabs the win. If Denver wins, UMass is in no matter what. Even if Denver loses, there is still a path for UMA to get in.

Step one of Operation Springfield is complete. A Denver win clinches it.

If Omaha wins, UMass needs AIC, BC and Michigan all to win.
