Tough loss. Probably deserved better, but the margins are small at this level. The Maine fans were the stars of the show. Proud to be a Mainer.

Mathieu Caron against Maine this season: 100/107 (0.935%)

Mathieu Caron against Maine, outside of the third period in the Saturday game of the regular season back-to-back: 86/90 (0.956%)

I thought Maine played as good of game as they could have other than the start. The game situation dictated Maine pushing forward which is why the shots were so lopsided in Maine’s favor.

I was incredibly impressed with BU. They obviously have tons of talent but they play hard and are tough as well. The last time I recall seeing Maine look as inferior as they did tonight was when Maine played that great 2009 BU team at the Alfond. I think if you combined BU and Maine Breen and maybe the Nadeaus get in the team but no one else. For Maine to hang in there as well as they did was one **** of an accomplishment.

After tonight I’m feeling good about next week. Maine should have a good chance in their first game and fingers crossed if they win that they play someone other than BC or BU.

Gotta pull for Denver to defeat St Cloud (4-4 late 3rd) and then win tomorrow as well as Cornell in the ECAC final tomorrow to get UMass back into the field and send Boston University to the corn field.

Maine probably wrapped up a #2 seed in Springfield despite the loss as NoDak and Qpac both lost as well.

Odds Maine stays in the east if BU dodges the UMass bullet?

BU's skill and work ethic on special teams was too much for Maine. Couple that with excellent goal tending and there you have it. Maine's not there yet, but they have taken a giant step forward!

Sorry to burst your bubble. They’re not moving the #2 team in the country out of the East. They will flip pairings and break the “intra-conference matchup in the first round” before they do that. Read today’s bracketology article.

I have Maine staying in Springfield no matter what thanks to North Dakota giving up a #1 seed to Michigan State. I would just prefer someone other than the Terriers waiting in the QF (assuming both win Thursday). I am sure there are some weird scenarios that could lead Maine west, but I haven't seen any.

It looks like when all is said and done tomorrow

Providence:
Boston College vs #16 (St Lawrence/Michigan Tech)
Wisconsin vs Quinnipiac (or a third NCHC team)

Sioux Falls:
Denver vs 13/14
Minnesota vs Omaha

Springfield:
Boston University/Michigan State vs 15/UMass
Maine vs NCHC team (Western Michigan)

Maryland Heights:
Michigan State/Boston University vs 13/14
North Dakota vs Michigan

They're going to send UMass to host at another site? Fascinating.

Hockey East will have four teams. The NCAA can't break the intra conference rule for less than five. And precedent has shown they absolutely will screw teams by sending them out of the region or making them play the wrong team (even if they're the #1 overall seed).

Which bracketology article are you reading?

The crowd for Maine was great. Lots of blue and they/we were loud. I would like to know how many Maine fans vs. BU fans. Aside from one section it seemed Maine crowd far exceeded the BU fans. Like 5 to 1 or something.

Definitely think Caron was the difference. He played very well.

I felt like Boija could have stopped that first BU goal. But he had other great saves to make up for it. And then the power play goals were tough to stop. This game seemed a lot like the first two games vs BU… put them on the power play too often.

It is good for the team to experience a big crowd and the atmosphere and the jitters. Hope it helps next weekend.

Will be there tomorrow watching this BC/BU rivalry final. Should be a great show.

In the BC/UMass game I thought Carvel should have pulled Hrabel part way through the second. It was clear he was off and fighting it. Not great letting him get 7 hung on him. BC quickness and shot skill is off the charts.
