UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Maine secures third place, their highest regular season finish in Hockey East since 2006.

Really good game tonight, both teams came to play and delivered a quality game, had a playoff atmosphere. Mass is no joke of a team and Maine showed real backbone to stay in it and deliver a good performance, especially with what had been surrounding the team recently. The team is trending up.

I would hope/think that Maine's starting goalie tomorrow night will be Victor Ostman.

At the moment that lifts Maine to #8 overall. Both Providence and UMass fall to 4 seeds. Quick bracketology has Maine playing #10 Michigan in Providence, but there are still games going on out west...

You wonder if tomorrow means more than we think. If Maine wins tomorrow, and Providence gets 4th, it could be a death sentence for UMass where they might be more apt to lose next Saturday having to play on the road at Providence. Maine must be far more likely(near lock?) to stay east if host UMass is out of the ncaa playoffs.

Probably Ostman tomorrow. But staying east for the ncaa playoffs might be on the line tomorrow for Maine. They might need to knock UMass out of the tournament to have a far better chance of staying east since UMass is a host of Springfield.

My only hope the rest of the way is the season doesn’t get cancelled. Should be some very exciting games in the hockey east and ncaa tournaments with and without Maine. It would be nice if they staggered the games next Saturday but I doubt they will.

Are they thinking about cancelling the season?

If UMass (or Providence, or both) are knocked out of the national tournament, Maine is a mortal lock to get a spot in the East, especially since the only Eastern schools in the mix are BC, BU, Maine and Quinnipiac. The NCAA will need all four fanbases to carry the regionals. Cornell and UHN are on the wrong side of the bubble. Speaking of the bubble, Omaha is a few RPI points away from turning the NCAA nightmare of having to send North Dakota on the road into a reality.

Denver and CC are only in the second period, so a little 'what if'

If CC wins I have Maine as the 2 seed in Providence playing Michigan with BC and the #16 autobid in the other game.
If Denver wins I have Maine as the 2 seed in Springfield playing Michigan with Denver and UMass in the other game.

They weren't thinking of canceling the season four years ago either...Maine was set to host a Hockey East quarterfinal then, too. Projected to be in the NCAA tournament. Then the world shut down.

But what does that have to do with 2024? Is there a new pandemic I don't know about?

Nothing like a game vs. Michigan to get the blood flowing.

Great competitive game tonight. Bradley’s best game in sometime. The Scott, Houle, Freel line was physically imposing. Maine finished almost all their checks. After the first where UMass had a lot of success trapping, Maine kept it in the offensive zone for large chunks repeatedly. Lots of guys were clicking tonight. Hoping Barr pushed the right buttons with the line changes. I like Renwicks size with the brothers.

Exciting times. Go Blue!

That was a fun game, great effort from both sides.
Umass looked darn good, better than I thought. Watched them play a couple times on espn, didnt think they were so good.

The boys need to refrain from partying tonite!!!

A sweep would put their heads in a good place, Umass ain't rolling over for sure.

Tickets are going fast...

Only 57 non-obstructed view seats in the lower bowl remain.
Still good seats available in the upper bowl.

Edit: According to the academic calendar, spring break ends on Friday, 15 March. Will students be allowed back on campus starting on Saturday or is it still Sunday? I'd love to see a game from the balcony but if the students are back tickets won't be available...
