UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

I got shouted down earlier in the season during/after the BU series, but I still think the difference between Maine as a program that's overall fine and a Maine program that is a year in and year out contender is one or two of those big 6'4" NHL draft picks.
Having our studs be water-buggy Nadeaus or Poiriers or Marqueses is nice and all, but sometimes you just need a future NHL power forward to bully his way to the net in a game where nothing else is really happening or working. It isn't a one or the other, it's both. And, yes, those guys cost money. Maine has money. Even after arena upgrades, building the basketball arena, and softball stadium, and soccer field, there is money. Either in a bank account or fans' pockets. Maine's gotta get dedicated to figuring out NIL or revenue sharing or something or we're going to fall further behind the BCs, BUs, UConns and Providences who are spending that money, even before we get into Big Ten or NCHC money.

I can get behind this. Even if they aren't a top round draft pick, even just having a guy like Eduards Tralmaks who can make things happen down low and in front of the net would be a big boon.
This is a great opportunity for me to mention them lacking Taylor Makar for about the 10th time this year already.

I was ready to buy but waited until this last weekend. Now Im frozen with indecision. Might book a hotel but just be prepared to buy high priced ticks or catch the last minute umaine tickets.

To me the Alfond money was making up for the 20-30 years of deferred maintenance and lack of investment in facilities.
Now we need to spend other money to put good teams on the field/court/ice.

It's kind of a shame he's miscast in the top six at the moment. Winning 60% of his draws is nice, but his overall play is probably better suited for a third line role at best. Think there is still some potential with him to grow into a productive piece down the middle which we desperately needed.

Mike, you are normally reasonable. But you are being an absolute idiot on this.
You CANT get the money back and use it for NIL. That doesn’t put the Alfond name on the building and keep it there for the next 25 years. They gave that money for the facilities because that’s what THEY wanted to do with it.
Why can’t you understand this after at least 10 times of discussing this on this board?

It is a strange team.
This team went 1-4-0 against UNH and Vermont.
This team went 3-1-0 against BC and BU.
They can hand it down Denver, then next weekend lay an egg against Providence.
My guess is you will likely see Denver, BC, and BU in the playoffs and maybe 2 of them in the frozen four.
My guess is you will not see UNH, Vermont, and Providence in the frozen four and likely not making NCAA playoffs or if they do being a 1 and done team.
This wreaks of a team with motivation problems. Get up for big programs, but overlook and overconfident against run of the mill programs.
And the goaltending has been week and inconsistent when Boija’s is in there except for the Denver series.
