UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

He was -20 last year, might be what they want him to work on for the big league(??).

Really good puck stick control and awareness on that.
Only spot for him currently would be the third line. I don't think it would hurt his development to line him up with Staal and Martinook (both very good defensive players) and learn from them, but Carolina clearly feels he'll benefit from dominating at the AHL this season (or at least until they can make room for him in the top-six).

Coach keeps saying the team needs to find its identity, this is a common statement with coaches who"s team hasn't gelled or isnt playing well early on.
I cant decide, probably a little of both, is it that the team hasn't for whatever reason yet conformed to what the coach wants as an identity, or is it that the players as a team havent developed how they are going to be/play as a team.

One of these identity things is that coach wants hard work, I get it and agree. Nothing wrong with this, a big piece of hockey is just that.

Another desired identity that I see from Barr, sort of a Red carry over, is to play physical and fore check deep in the boards, alot, I get this too. But his recruits have to be suited for this style, the smaller guys aren't really. Elite players may not want to play this style (putting nli money aside), who often are the stronger skilled guys. I suppose he is trying to find a blend of players, small fast crafty with physical guys. This is the tougher identity to be good at - I think.

you can't add 13 guys to a team and expect them to come together in 2 weeks. I know they practiced together but games are not practice. I've said right along this will be Barrs Toughest season in Orono, expectations changed from we hope to we are back again. Its going to take awhile to gel.

Yeah no argument there. They are starting fresh. Like coach says they havent found themselves yet.

Looking forward to this weekend, first time back this year, missed the holy cross series.

The returned tickets went on sale. Friday is already sold out again and there are only six tickets in section G available for Saturday. The balcony is full both nights. Free pizza for the students in line Friday night. Drone show on Saturday night.

For those watching on ESPN+ here's something to be aware of with "live" sports, including hockey games. ESPN is making the commercial breaks longer and picking up the broadcast at the same time as when the broadcast came back from commercial. TV timeouts ae generally 60 seconds, but ESPN stretches them to 90 or 120 seconds. That is 1-4 minutes per period, so by the end of the game you might be 10 minutes behind.

Last season I was having a heck of a time with the commercials going on in endless loops (gdamn BK commercials that just wouldn't stop) for what seemed like longer than what a timeout break should be to the point where I got suspect, would leave the game and then go back into it and get right into live game action. Not sure if it's still an issue yet this season as it's been limited viewing so far but it didn't seem as bad as it was last season.

It seems to have become more noticeable (at least to me) this year because Disney introduced a new bundle (E+, D+, Hulu) this summer and took away the option for no commercials on ESPN+. I used to get "commercial break in progress" screens during live events like hockey or tennis instead of actual commercials. Now I get commercials with a little timer in the corner telling me how much time is left in the break.

So exit the stream during commercials?

That's the best bet, yes. Fast forwarding won't work because as far as the stream you're in is concerned, you're already live.

I believe this is another facet of what is lovingly called the enshittification of the Internet.

The tickets that had been available in section G are gone, but a handful at the top of section OO are now available for Saturday. Friday now has four obstructed view seats in DD and four in OO. Tickets on Seatgeek start at $40.

Everyone who doesn't have Disney, or doesn't want to pay, www.onhockey.tv has been spot on again this year. Used it all of last year, and it works great. Sometimes takes a few tries to get past the fake virus popups and ads but it's free.
A word of caution - tried this once, my phone went bonkers telling me it wasnt secure and that it tried to pass along a security infection, etc.
Probably wont go there again.
