UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

I like it. Sometimes the student section is sparsely populated. This new system should keep it full.

I have a cousin who is a current student and his mindset (along with his friends) is hockey games are fun, but no one wants to stand in line for a couple hours and not get in…or feel the need to get in line at 3pm. Hopefully it will work itself out with many benefits beyond the prior first come, first serve. He never bothered to find out when the line wasn’t absurdly long.

It seems like in the last few years there have been more than a few games where it’s close to empty and I don’t really remember that in the past other than around break or something like that. They should consider splitting the balcony in half and selling one half to general public.

Regarding student tickets, when I was there (2016-20, Gendron era) you just flashed your MaineCard at the front door and they handed you a paper ticket. My friends and I always got there early, usually were first in line, didn't want to risk not getting the seats we always sat in for every game, but sometimes it filled up all the way and sometimes it didn't. I think part of the last few years had to do with the band not being in the balcony, with them being moved back up there for this year it will look a lot more full.

There's about 115 fewer students tickets available in the balcony with the band going back upstairs and the new ADA platforms. I was able to score two GA balcony tickets this evening, and there's plenty available for tomorrow.

Enjoy. Hope there are lots of goals by Maine in that end. Make sure you heckle the goalie like the kids do. At least as much as you can without losing your voice.

I feel like the balcony should just be the students territory, after all its a college sport. Full or empty its theirs.

I agree. The students are what makes the balcony such an advantage. Find a way to get the students to pack the place.

That said, when I was a student (14-18), there was a delightful little old lady with season tickets in Section GG. I hope she's still sitting up there.

I think the new system will hopefully prevent the half full balcony’s that occurred last year all too often. With such an increase in demand, I love the thought of giving the students a deadline, and if it is obvious that there is going to be empty seats, why not sell them to the general public? Seems like the perfect system.

Anybody know how many seats the ADA platforms take up? Is it like a whole row at the top or just in certain sections.

Also, can’t wait to see the band back up there again!

I got a look at the balcony on the Chiclets University twitter page. Looks like the ADA platforms take up about 5 or 6 seats of the two two rows in two sections.

So the new system for students is?? That if they dont secure tickets by a certain time the leftovers get sold?
So students have to plan out a couple days and cant last minute decide to go to game.?
Students planning ahead 🤔
Right....like Duke basketball, Alabama football, etc.

I don't think we should have sections of empty seats because students can't get their head out of their *ss.

Students need to request tickets in advance. They also have to let the ticket office know 24 hours before the game if they can't attend and the ticket is released to be sold. If students reserve seats but the ticket remains unscanned the student gets a strike. Three strikes and the student loses the right to reserve seats at any sporting event for the rest of the school year.

It is still general admission, so first in line will get the best seats. So even though I bought the ticket marked front row of section J J, I'd have to get there early to claim that seat.

Speaking of, I won't be able to make it to Orono tonight after all, so if anyone wants the ticket, email me or post here and I'll send you the QC code for admission. No charge, just enjoy the game and make lots of noise.
I still don't get why they print seat numbers instead of labeling the balcony tickets "general admission"?

Charbrier gets deep, circles the net, creates chaos, gets puck back at point, wrists it off the pipe, then a rebound was shot back on net and goalie made a save while on his belly, then Pichette cleaned up the loose puck. A complete frenzy.

Maine 1-0

Whoever the new center ice cameraman is needs to go back to school. This is unwatchably atrocious. Zero idea what the puck is, jerking all over the place, I'm getting sea sick.
Something is not right. Are they holding the camera in hand and not on a tripod?

I'm guessing these are mostly operated by students to keep costs low. It also seems like the camera is handheld, not on a tripod. The game is sponsored by Dramamine.

Nine figures in donations and they can't hire an adult to hold a camera. I've seen middle school soccer moms freehand an iPhone better.
