UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

One thing that Maine can do better this season is pass the puck…and we’ve also got a couple of guys that can put the puck in the net when they get the opportunity. Lack of size is a definite weakness though….especially when guys just stand around and poke at the puck…really irritating.

Not to take anything from Maine, but that was a tough way for Colgate to lose. Niedermeyer breaking his stick and losing control of the puck was a break for Maine. Still, Maine has to gain control and put it in the net, which they did. Neidermeyer, Nagle, Brandt etc. are good players. Polls are meaningless as Colgate did not receive a single vote in last week's poll. I see this Maine team developing as the season evolves.

I definitely agree that this team is going to be a work in progress that improves over the course of the season. I would not be surprised to see them have a second semester winning streak at some point.

Nice redemption for Max Scott because we were all dumping on him for missing the wide open net the night before that could have tied the game.

I think mostly the team needs to have two things come together… being nastier in front of their own net, playing the body on d rather than flat footed stabbing at pucks, and seeing more consistent work ethic for a few of the gifted types, having those gifted types back check.

If those are the areas they work on I think Maine could be a top 4 hockey east team. Which means a ncaa at large bid for ncaa playoffs. I hope they all work hard in those areas.

If there are players coasting and thinking they will get by with talent instead of putting in the hard work, that can (and should) be policed by their teammates. We had a kid like that until Silverman, Imes, Martin and Murphy gave him an "education" at practice one day. His work ethic improved dramatically after that.

in the words of Walsh "You'll either learn or you won't play!"

Huge weekend coming up for both sides. BU has had some ups and downs so far as we have, so both teams looking to come in and show what they're made of against a quality opponent. I'm really looking forward to watching.

I've finally calmed down after a disastrous weekend to get some thoughts together. Maine is still a very skilled team, but lack discipline. How many of the 11 penalties this weekend were in the offensive zone? And the bone headed turnovers continue. The good news is these things can be fixed. Can Barr fix them before it's too late?
